The quixotic, oft-troubled football journey of Quincy Carter has landed in Kansas City, where Tuesday he was signed to the active roster of the Arena Football League's Brigade.
The former Georgia Bulldogs and Dallas Cowboys quarterback from Decatur had been on the Brigade's practice squad, the team monitoring his skills as well as his ability to stay clean. Last year had begun with Carter, 30, starting for the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings of the Arena League 2 and ended with a stint in drug rehab in Florida.
The Bulldogs quarterback from 1998-2000, Carter was drafted in the second round by the Cowboys in 2001. He led them to the postseason in 2003, but was released in training camp of 2004 amid reports of a failed drug test and questions about his leadership ability.
He would go on to play one season for the New York Jets and briefly with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. He has been arrested twice for possession of marijuana —in Dallas (December 2006) and in Shreveport (Oct. 2007).
At the end of 2007, he visited former Cowboys linebacker Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson, himself a rehabilitated addict. Henderson then helped Carter chart a course for attempting to get his life in order.
With the Brigade, he currently is listed as the backup to rookie D. Bryant, who currently is the 20th-ranked quarterback in the 17-team Arena League.
"I'm 30-years-old, I have to [make the most of this opportunity]," Carter told the Kansas City Star. "I'm not getting any younger, and I can't keep relying on my talent and thinking it's always going to be there."

Um...what talent? He was replaced at the midseason mark of his sophomore season by Chad Hutchinson...a QB that hadn't played football in over 4 years prior to his signing with Dallas. That's not a mark of great talent...he's a drugged out idiot. If KC is smart, they'll hire an airport drug dog to follow him around the training facilities as well as, the town itself. 8DRTV75
