Title: Name the team

tallygal73 - August 26, 2005 09:08 PM (GMT)
Ok...I suck at creating names.

My daughter Rachel is planning on walking in this year's AsthmaWalk to raise money for the American Lung Association. She's going to be our team leader because she's become so passionate about trying to give back to the ALA and the community.

Over the summer she participated in Camp Puff 'n Stuff that was organized by the American Lung Association. It was held at the College of Charleston and was only for kids with asthma. At camp, she learned that she's not the only one with asthma and she learned more about why she has to take all of the medicines that she takes.

More than 50% of today's children between the ages of 7-9 with asthma are totally responsible for knowing when to take their medicines and how to take them because their parents either aren't around or just don't care enough. The American Lung Association helps provide education to these children and the schools on how to deal with and help manage their asthma, as well as providing money for continued research to try to find not only better medications, but eventually a cure one day.

Anyway.....we need ideas for a team name....anyone? anyone???

Let me think on it a while. In the mean time here is some asthma
trivia for you: Former Falcons and Braves great Dieon Sanders
suffers form asthma and has since he was a child.

Jerome Bettis of the Steelers has asthma and participates in the Asthma Walk in his area.

Former Falcon/Current Panther Chris Draft has asthma as well.

Here are some other stats on asthma and the effects to the community as a whole.

An estimated 20.3 million Americans currently have asthma.

Over 14.5 million workdays among adults and 14 million school days in children are missed due to asthma each year.

The soaring economic cost of asthma-$14 billion per year in the US alone.

Approximately 12 Americans die of asthma every day of the year.

What type of name are you looking for exactly? I mean are they supposed to be something along the lines of Atlanta Asthma Annihilators (AAA). I'm just trying to get a feel for the type of team name your looking for. Do you have any examples of team names from the past?

It can be any kind of team name...some people use their company name or a play on it...

one past team name was "Ashley's Asthma Inhalers"...

We want something kind of fun and 8 yr oldish...if that makes sense.

I'll submit Kourageous Kids. Having asthma as a kid, I know it wasn't fun and can be very challenging to overcome...

Approximately 12 million Americans experience an asthma attack each year.

Nearly two million emergency room visits and 500,000 hospitalizations are attributed to asthma each year.
