:)

what sort of music do you guys like?

i figure if everyone names about 5 bands/artists that they enjoy listening to it might get other people into other music too, and we could recommend new music to each other. :)

Bon Jovi
Matthew Ryan
Keith Urban
Van Zant (their new country album)
U2

this is the stuff I've been listening to lately...now with the exception of Matthew Ryan and Bon Jovi, the rest of it rotates in and out with all kinds of different stuff...I just got in my INXS greatest hits cd, so I'm sure that will find it's way over to the rotation soon... fgtb76

I like lots of different stuff - pop, classic rock, 80s, Broadway musicals, some contemporary Christian. I don't care much for country or rap or hip hop. With a 10-year old girl, I'm beginning to like anything by the Disney channel gang - Hilary, Raven, Jesse etc. Might as well like it - I gotta listen to it!

MV4MVP - September 2, 2005 09:23 PM (GMT)

I listen to different kinds. Right now the mood has been 3 Doors Down or ColdPlay

nuttlady69 - September 7, 2005 12:06 PM (GMT)
I listen to pretty much anything!!!! :)

pencilpusher - September 8, 2005 02:14 PM (GMT)
I like different music for different moods so it's a tough call. If feeling in a punkish mood:

Rancid
Misfits
Clash
Ramones
Pennywise

If country, it's old school only
George Jones
Johnny Cash
Merle Haggard
The Carter family
Loretta Lynn
Hank Sr

metal and hard rock
Skid Row
Iron Maiden
Older Kiss
Judas Priest
G N R

If I am in no particular mood
John Prine
Steve Earle
16 Horsepower
Erik Petersen
Mojo Nixon

Somedays I will spend all day listening to Rat Pack music.
Some days classical some days blues.

Two albums I can listen to daily are Cheap Trick Live at Budokan and Blondie Parallel lines.

Not trying to sound eclectic, I just grew up around all types of music and appreciate most all.

shay - September 8, 2005 06:25 PM (GMT)
I listen to a lot of the current Top 40 stuff on my drive in the am and pm. When I listen to music I choose, it varies greatly. I, too, love Prince and got my son to listening to him after forcing him to watch Purple Rain with me. He (my son) is into all kinds of music and gets on that Motown kick, too, but he also knows every rapper out and the lyrics to their songs.

I like country and listen to the old stuff on Saturday nights: I like classic rock, especially AC/DC and also Southern Rock. Heavy Metal and Southern Rock are probably what I listen to the most, then old country.

I also like 3 Doors Down, I have met them twice. They are great guys.

Well sure, if you consider playing nothing but powerchords great.

As for myself, I am very very strict about what goes past my ears. No Top 40 bs, and I really hate mainstream(anything mtv recommends on a daily basis) music. No Rap, no country.

For a Top 5 list:
1. Led Zeppelin
2.Dream Theater
3.Pink Floyd
4.The Allman Brothers Band
5.Liquid Tension Experiment

So it's mainly a mix between Classic Rock and Prog Metal, but I also love Modern Orchestra, and alot of Indie(Independent/Underground) rock.

When It comes down to it, for me, it's all about the musical talent. I really don't put much effort into lyrically based stuff, for I am a firm believer in using instruments, but using them well. That's kindof why I really really hate modern Rock. It's total bullshit, anyone can pick up a guitar and be doing what they are doing in 2 weeks(talent-wise).

Face it, Labels just don't give a shit anymore. It's all numbers to them. If a bunch of pre-teens what to watch Brittany Spears make out with chicks(or what ever the hell she does that week) on TV, then who the fuck are they to say no? It just gives 'em more money.

A reason I prefer music that can be placed on a higher level than the shallow, unefforted shit that comes out today.

shay - September 8, 2005 10:27 PM (GMT)
Thanks for totally dissing me and my opinions. The main reason I listen to the top 40 stuff is I drive a long way to work and need traffic reports often, and they have them. I have no cd player in my car, so I couldn't listen to my own music anyway. Why can't you just voice your choices without cutting down others?

John - September 8, 2005 10:37 PM (GMT)
Because my opinion directly contradicts yours.

I wasn't tyring to be an asshole. What I said is true, though, bands like 3 Doors Down don't produce music that show off any talent on guitar, what-so-ever.

And really, it all comes down to what YOU like. If you like it, then why should it matter? Who gives a shit about what some 15 year old on a MB thinks, anyways. I = nothing.

But really, I wasn't trying to offend anyone. I was just being truthful about my opinion.

i do see your opinion about record labels though, and to an extent it's something i feel strongly about because there's a lot of bands that i know here in england that have the talent to sell a lot of records but don't get that opportunity because there are already too many bands who aren't anything special selling cd's by thousands, millions even. it's quite sad. but i guess that's how the industry works.
