Title: Daytime Stars To Visit New Orleans

Roxanne - January 25, 2006 11:18 PM (GMT)
I got this from the abc.com board.

ABC DAYTIME LENDS A HELPING HAND TO THE CITY OF
NEW ORLEANS, FEBRUARY 24-26

In an effort to boost tourism and generate revenue for the city of New Orleans, ABC Daytime will participate in this year's Mardi Gras - the first of the city's annual celebrations since the devastation from Hurricane Katrina in August, 2005. During Mardi Gras weekend, ABC Daytime will be featured on a float in the "Morpheus Krewe" parade, taking place on Friday, February 24, at 7:15 p.m., (the parade route will travel down St. Charles Avenue and up Canal Street). On Saturday, February 25, ABC Daytime will kick off the all new "Fun in the Sun" tour with a fan event taking place in the French Quarter's Jackson Square (12:00-3:00 p.m.). "Fun in the Sun" is an interactive multi-city fan appreciation event that attracts thousands of people each year to meet the ABC Daytime stars. Rounding out the weekend, ABC Daytime will host a private visit to the New Orleans Children's Hospital, bringing Mardi Gras celebrations to all its patients. All of these efforts are expected to raise national awareness for ongoing relief and to bring much needed business back to New Orleans.
"This is a significant event because ABC and their Daytime stars are giving the tourism industry of New Orleans a vote of confidence," said Kim Priez, vice president of the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau. "Mardi Gras is a celebration of the human spirit, and it is a vital economic engine, generating millions in direct tax revenues to our city, paying for services necessary for recovery and bringing displaced residents back home. We are excited for ABC to participate in the 150th anniversary celebration of Mardi Gras and to bring the event to viewers nationwide. We appreciate ABC Daytime's efforts and leadership in supporting New Orleans' recovery."

ABC Daytime will provide additional awareness for continuous support to New Orleans by presenting a fictional depiction of a Mardi Gras ball, hosted by "All My Children's" Erica Kane (Susan Lucci). This fictional ball will serve as a real life fundraiser for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which assists victims of thousands of disasters across the country, including the continuing relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina victims. This effort will be integrated into the storyline, with Erica Kane and the residents of Pine Valley addressing her television audience, as well as "All My Children's" real life audience, giving information on how they can make donations during the airing of these interactive episodes. Those fans who make donations by February 12 will receive a thank you phone message from Susan Lucci.

"We recognize the need for assistance in the ongoing recovery of New Orleans and have the ability and desire to provide our help," said Brian Frons, president of ABC Daytime.

The weekend will feature appearances from "All My Children's" Cady McClain (Dixie Martin), Cameron Mathison (Ryan Lavery), Jacob Young (JR Chandler) and Alexa Havins (Babe Chandler), "One Life to Live's" Robin Strasser (Dorian Lord), Kamar de los Reyes (Antonio Vega) and Renee Goldsberry (Evangeline Williamson), and "General Hospital's" Kelly Monaco (Sam McCall), Greg Vaughan (Lucky Spencer) and Ted King (Lorenzo Alcazar) -- a total cast of ten from ABC Daytime's hit lineup.

Thanks Roxanne! I am glad to see this because those people in New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast still need help. I live in Hurricane Country (aka FL) and it take years to rebuild. This is a great way to boost New Orlean's economy. :)
