Title: Greg's Christmas gift 2006
Description: Donation to children's hospital.....

iluvlucky - August 10, 2006 05:58 PM (GMT)
:wavey: everyone !

Hard to believe but it is that time of year where we are already talking about Christmas. Less than 4 months away.eesh! Time flies.lol With that in mind Birdie, Roxy and I have been racking our brains trying to come up with what to get Greg and here is what we decided on: A collection of art supplies to be sent to a children's hosptial in LA in Greg & Touriya's name. We aren't sure yet which hospital but we have emailed Debby O to see if she might know. Once we find out which hospital I will post them here.

Now to the details: We have narrowed the items down to 4 that we would like everyone to collect. We did this because if we didn't everyone would be sending in too many different items and we wanted it this to be simple. :) The items to be collected are:

1) Crayons
2) Water Colors
3) Construction Paper
4) Coloring Books
5) Markers

With school starting up you might could get some of these on sale now, which is good. These are all inexpensive items and can be easily found and also items that little kids love. I know my little cousins love to draw, etc so we feel like this would be a good thing to do.

Roxanne has agreed to be the keeper of the items along with the donations. (Thanks girl. :) ) Between now and Friday, November 17th you can send Roxy the items you collect. Just send her a pm and she will give you her address. :) You can also paypal her donations at Roxfabela@aol.com. The deadline to send donations is Friday November 24th. This will give Roxy time to go out and buy the supplies with the money donated.

All of the items will be boxed up and sent to the hospital the first week in December. We will also take a picture of what is sent so we can send it to Greg in a card to let him know what we did. We really think this is something that would mean the most to Greg. To give back to children who need it the most and if we can brighten up a child's day that is sick then that is wonderful. :)

Again the 2 deadlines are:

To send items through mail - November 17th.
To send donations via paypal - November 24th.

Thanks everyone. You guys always seem to come through for us when we ask and I can't tell you enough how much that means to us. :)

Awesome idea! Good thinking guys! :cheerleader:

Jenna - August 10, 2006 09:55 PM (GMT)
excellant, theres a lot of cute water color books and coloring books out there, and what a great idea.. We gotta take care of the boys & girls.

And not sure if this was anyone elses first thought, its very LL2 like, since Lucky is the one who encouraged Elizabeth to be an artist.

I'm in for sure

NikNak - August 11, 2006 03:14 AM (GMT)
Aww, this is a wonderful idea! I will definitely be sending items and donations. Thanks for doing this for us, Rox!

You ladies come up w/ some good, sweet ideas. :)

songbirdie - August 11, 2006 05:26 AM (GMT)
I must confess that the idea actually came from Rick's event where the hospital lady was talking about the sick kids and the need for supplies for them. Since we are always doing stuff for Greg we thought he might appreciate it if we did something for others in his honor. So now when I got to walmart or the dollar store I get to shop for the kids too. I love doing that stuff! :)

Wonder if we could get some stores to donate some too? Just wondering if anyone has connections out there. Maybe? Just a thought.

Sioux - August 11, 2006 02:12 PM (GMT)
Excellent idea, ladies. (as usual!)

As I work for a non-profit children's agency, the idea of doing something for the kids in Greg and Touriya's name really hits home for me. Christmas is a stressful time for children, whether they be in treatment or in a hospital.

We could always get "things" for Greg but we never really know if its something that he will like or keep for a long time. This idea, for the kids, we all know how he feels about kids, I'm sure will really touch his heart. And he will appreciate it all the more.

You know I'm in. I'll start looking for items right away.

Getting stores to donate is a great idea too. You might have to have proof of what you asking them to donate to however. After you get a definite hospital name, it will be easier to ask.

 thanks for the input Sue. It is much appreciated. :)

Jenna - August 11, 2006 05:34 PM (GMT)
so no markers or colored pencils, just crayons, right?

Gotta remember to get the 'thick' crayons for the little kids. :)

and FYI--Micheals sometimes has coloring books for a 1$

Great idea about the Dollar store, Chris--will be checking there as well

Carebears, Superman, Nemo, Spongebob, Incredibles, Barbies, Turtles, Spiderman, Disney Princess, seasme street, ect ect...Super cute.

Grace ~ Just go back up and read the original post I made. You can either buy the items yourself and mail to Roxanne or you can send donations to Roxanne and she will buy the items. Which ever you want to do. Roxanne will then box up all the items and mail them out the first week of December.

Debby O is not involved in this at all. We are just going to ask her if there is a specific hospital that would be good to send the items to.

Jenna - August 13, 2006 09:58 PM (GMT)
Yeah I went shopping already, maybe I went overboard :LOL2:

Gotta love the dollar store (talk about HUGE selection), I also went to office depot (love back to school sales). Trust me looks like NOW is the time to buy stuff, unless of course you plan on just hitting the dollar store)

I bought a lot today

Construction paper
Crayons
Jumbo crayons
Coloring books (Sesame Street, Carebears, Nascar cars, Ragedy Anne & Andy)

I know they were on the list, but yeah couldnt resit (sorry and *ducks* especailly since they were so cheap)
Glue sticks (2 packs of 4)
Markers (a set of thin and thick)
Thin colored pencils
4 safety scissors (meaning they are not only rounded they have the plastic on the rounded edge)

iluvlucky - August 13, 2006 11:02 PM (GMT)
Please remember to ONLY buy what is on the list. Yes, there are a lot of cute things out and we can find things cheap there but the focus needs to be on these 4 items.

1) Crayons
2) Water Colors
3) Construction Paper
4) Coloring Books
5) Markers

It makes it easier for everyone if we know what to look for instead of buying the "extra" stuff. Thanks everyone for your interest in this cause. :) It is going to be a great gift.

Jenna - August 13, 2006 11:07 PM (GMT)

Talked to my Mom today on the phone and told her what we were doing and since she works at Walmart she is going to keep an eye out for bargains on the things we need. SHe said that she thought they had a clearance cart with crayons in it for CHEAP CHEAP. She was going to look tomorrow to see if it was still there. Cross your fingers all. :)

iluvlucky - August 17, 2006 01:22 PM (GMT)
Good deal - hope your Mom can get some stuff. I think I saw on TV where Staples has Crayons for 15 cents so if you guys have one of those stores close that would be good. I don't have one close to me but I'm going to hit Target and those stores this weekend to see if I can find stuff. :)

songbirdie - August 17, 2006 03:18 PM (GMT)
oh there is a staples right by me.... good info. Will hit them this weekend! Thanks for the heads up!

NikNak - August 19, 2006 01:20 AM (GMT)
There's plenty of Staples around me! I can hit them up for some crayons. :)

songbirdie - August 19, 2006 01:58 AM (GMT)
stopped at Staples today and got all they would let me have. They had a limit of 5 per person and still got 13 boxes. :) :)
