I am going to NYC. Excited Not so much. I spend way too much time in NYC.
Hmm wait I take that back boring. But I don't have to fly. I only have to drive but wtf February. It is brutally cold here in February. Last year a few of us couldn't find a restaurant to take about 12 of us so we had to walk around NYC in the freezing cold.

iluvlucky - October 30, 2006 03:20 AM (GMT)
The weather is the one thing I worry about. I have this fear of something happening and I won't be able to either fly in to NYC or fly out of NYC. I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

LOL. I know I was like what if the guys can't make it. Even for me just taking the train into the city in the snow is going to stink cause there will be delays.
lilchelles - October 31, 2006 03:17 AM (GMT)
Hopefully there will be good weather so you guys can get here safely! February isn't a fun month for the northeast.

Which shows do you recommend? :)
SURFERD25 - November 1, 2006 12:14 AM (GMT)
Can't wait for word on the event in NY. I visit there often and January through April is my favorite time to visit. Being a Cali girl - I don't get snow very often unless I go snowboarding...but well...that's like twice a year.
Anyway - I've been to NYC and stayed various places Best Western on 45th or the Marriott Marquis...or the Hostel on 45th all in Times Square. Also rented an apartment up on 69th Street and 7th Ave.
If you want to see a show and get to the theater before 10am you can get your tickets for half. Usually the tickets are 50 and up. The half off tickets are only for that night's show, but its worth it. I got practically front row to Chicago. Check to see where the good ones are playing and go to the actual theater. My fav's are Les Miserables, The Lion King, Chicago was all right (I think I didn't like it because the actors), Mamma Mia and Rent are good as well. However - if I get back there - I'm definitely going to see The Color Purple. I hear the harmony and chorus just brings tears to your eyes. Plus - isn't Evangenline from OLTL playing one of the characters.
Anyone been to see The Color Purple?
Or if you don't have time to stand in line that early - in Times Square you won't miss the long line and the big red area where you can buy Show tickets.
I take subway system there to see everything as well. The metrocard is only 23 or something for a whole week with free bus transfers. I don't like taxi's.
But I love the restaurants down in Little Italy. Lower East side. That's the only place I'll break down and take a taxi.
http://www.littleitalynyc.com/ I usually eat at Casa Bella or Da Nico's.
I won't write a whole long drawn out thing - but if you have any touristy questions let me know. All the New Yorker's will probably be better help though.
Hoping that the NY appearance is in between my school Break!!!
D

You HAVE to see a show when you come to NYC.
It's one of the best things to do, especially if you love theater. Broadway is just the best. Even off-Broadway plays are cool. I've seen a few amazing ones.
I haven't seen The Color Purple yet but I heard it was phenomenal. I am looking forward to seeing it one day soon.

I would love to go see the show "Wicked". I saw it on the Tony's last year and loved it. There is also a new show coming out next month that I would love to see - it is based on my favorite movie of all time - "Mary Poppins". :giggle: I looked and the tickets are way to expensives.
lilchelles - November 1, 2006 03:18 AM (GMT)
Being so close to NYC, you would think I'd be there all the time. I'm just not a fan of the city. Plus, in February? Walking outside in the cold is not my thang.
But I can't wait to meet everyone!!
KimAshton - November 1, 2006 11:13 AM (GMT)
Oh I love Wicked.
I am going to stand in the half price line this weekend to see if I can get Rent tickets. I have yet to see the show.

If you wanna see Wicked, i recommend buying them now... because they sell out for months in advance. And Mary Poppins just might be impossible to get seeing as it just recently opened. But, i highly recommend seeing Wicked, it wonderful and the music is amazing. :) If you have any questions, just ask me... I'm a broadway freak. ^_^

Yeah, I only go into the city if I have a special event to go, and I live just 30-40 minutes away.
And, February is cold as all hell to just be walking around the city just because.
Grrrrace. - November 3, 2006 01:05 PM (GMT)
I've seen RENT 30 times on broadway, and i know the cast pretty well. I really recommend you seeing that. Its great! ^_^
