What the best War movie?
My favorite films are the one that you can feel the fear as if you where there.. then its really difficult to pick one but the one i like for the effects and photo i SPR but not the plot.. my choise is... DAS BOOT

I have also choosen Das Boot
I love submarine-thriller/war movies.
Even though its sub-titled and is over 3hrs long.
It has tears, laughs, sorrow, action, and a surprize ending, what more do you need?!
Two of my other favouriates didn't make your list, 'The Hunt for Red October' and 'U-571'
Also the Dirty Dozen, of which our clan is a name-sake... 'well kinda'

Yes i really like to see films in the original language, well all films I see are subtitled so I´m used to subtitles..
there is a couple really good realistic films that i think that the english audience never seen its from the finnish winter war in -39
"Unknown soldier" based on a novel by Väniö Linna
I also want to recommend this film Framom främsta linjen witch means in front of the front line..
Me and pepperkatt saw it on the swedish premiere.. there were a gruop i warveterans i the cinema.. and to see their reactions where truly touching.. I have nerver been this close to WWII ever.. se IDMB

Well, since the one I consider a good one isn't there, Black Hawk Down. Private Ryan gets my vote and how old is Das Boot?

Hmmm tough choice. Based on the list my vote goes to Saving Private Ryan. But Full Metal Jacket and Platoon deserve honourable mentions.
I'd add two more to the list: Black Hawk Down and The Dirty Dozen and I'd also give Band of Brothers a mention (although that's a miniseries and not a movie). I thought it had the right mix of action and sorrow.

for me it had to be Saving Private Ryan if only for the opening war seen .I think its the nearest i've seen to what i imagine WW2 was really like.Downside for me in this film was the absence of any British troops in this film as Britain made a major contribution in Europe but i suppose thats Hollywood great film though

Saving private Ryan is the best. I remember seeing it at the cinema and the last scene with the tank just gave me a hell of ride. Full Metal jacket comes second... :)
