Title: 40k Gt
Description: Ideas?
Hazm - June 8, 2007 06:13 AM (GMT)
Ok so with the Fantasy GT now finished it is time for 40Ks turn. Now since Dad has no expertise at 40K it seems I will be organising it, so lets have some suggestions, how do you want it run this year? When is a good date for it to be on? How many points? e.t.c.
Thanks
the venerable fighting spaniel - June 8, 2007 07:19 AM (GMT)
I like the 2000pts mark, but if you want more game over the time period then you may want to cut this back. It has been said that the army lists have been made to be played at the 1500pt mark, but I feel that this is quite low for some of the more points expensive armies making it harder to make a balanced and yet competitive army.
I think that not only should armies be judged on their balanced spread of points, but also theme. Of course painting should included, but more points could be on offer for having objective markers fitting your armys theme, nice display base and providing background for your army.
As for when I dont really know, I missed last years tournament because of work. I'm not going to miss this one!
One thing to consider would be if cities of death rules will be played on any of the tables. Players would need to be made aware of this well before hand. If it decided to included a CoD table and I'm given enough notice, I'd be more than happy to make my available for the tournament.

Ok, my only problem with 2000 is that a lot of people may not be able to make that (i.e. me <_<) so it is just whether you would prefer fewer opponents and more points or a larger touranment with less points. For the theme scoring if others are keen we could do a seperate category (as well as painting, comp. sports) for theme and score it similarly.

I hate to say it, but i have to agree with harry here ( :P ), Purely on the grounds that quite a few of our 40k players are just starting off new armies (me, connal, harry) and so will not be able to make up to the larger 2000pts format. One more request, can we not have this for a few months, just I've just finished completely reorganising my army, and i need some time to get the feel of it B)
the venerable fighting spaniel - June 9, 2007 01:48 AM (GMT)
In the interest of getting more players along to this, then go for 1500pts. I think that the more players we have would be better for the club. I also think that setting a date asap would also he....good to have a goal to aim for in regards to painting etc, and also gives players time to make plans.

How bout somewhere in the middle. Or right in the middle. 1750 could work, bearing in mind that it takes longer to bulk up in pts for 40k than fantasy, and that 2000 is a bit of a stretch if you've only got 1200 now.
I really like the idea of having one of the games a cityfight. To make it fair all the missions should be the same for each round, say one of the city ones and all of the 5 basic ones over the course of the tourney. Just so you don't end up doing all cleanses or something.
The round robin worked great for fantasy mostly cos it was quick and you got to play all people. Mostly it was quick.
Oh and something should be done that really punishes bad comp. Dave's abomination in the fantasy GT let him bag 3rd, and it's gotta be the most stacked army I've seen. :D
coco - June 9, 2007 04:06 AM (GMT)
I'm out. Won't be up to points in time.
Polymphus - June 9, 2007 05:27 AM (GMT)
I'm in depending on when it is. I can actually paint quite quickly when I get into it (a whole squad of guard today! that must be a record!) but unless I go really cheesy and bring out the land raider I got for $10 a while back as an Inquisitorial jeep, I'm going to have trouble getting up there.
Finnie Cent - June 9, 2007 06:54 AM (GMT)
When my re-organising is done i may be able to pull off 1750, just waiting on more special weapons from alex <_<
Otissimo - June 9, 2007 07:21 AM (GMT)
I suggest picking up the painting pace now cos you'll be surprised how quick it can go.
the venerable fighting spaniel - June 9, 2007 11:47 AM (GMT)
How about late August? At 1500pts with the odd cities of death game. Most players should be able to get an army going by then, gives enough time for any out of towners to make plans....and gives me heaps of time to get my terrain done.
Hazm - June 9, 2007 09:50 PM (GMT)
Yep that sounds good. I am happy to try for 1750 if everyone else does but whatever. The only trouble with doing it then would be it's not a long weekend. But I suppose we could go in Friday night as well and have an evening session, maybe start earlier as well, depending on when everyone finishes work/school commiments. So do you want to play 7 games? The seems to be an easy number, 1 or 2 on Friday night, 3 on Saturday and 2 or 3 on Sunday? How about the 25th - 26th? Don't think we'll get many out of towners as they have to have a day to travel so that means they miss 2 days of work.
Otissimo - June 10, 2007 12:40 AM (GMT)
Then its probably not going to be a round robin then? We'd need exactly 8 players to get the 7 games.
How's battle points going to be done? Like fantasy with a score from 20 to 0, plus modifyers for objectives and killing HQs? Otis like that way.
the venerable fighting spaniel - June 10, 2007 06:51 AM (GMT)
Labour weekend sounds good. Should help for players wanting to get armys done.
Hazm - June 11, 2007 08:10 AM (GMT)
Ok so are we at 1500 or 1750? I can get to 1750 no worries by then thanks to my recent purchases on TradeMe (more Seraphim Finnie, your favourite ;)). Labour weekend it is then. Will get something up on the South Island wargaming forums as soon as we have finalised the details. I don't really know how the Fantasy GT scoring tables would work for 40K, the proportion of battle points to soft scores was good though I think. Would it work for 40K Otis?

The Real Leon - June 11, 2007 09:39 PM (GMT)
All I can say is FULLY PAINTED AND BASED ARMIES ONLY!!! Not just because mine is, but it annoys me that i take time to paint mine, then end up playing unpainted/undercoated armies.
Hazm - June 12, 2007 03:45 AM (GMT)
Yes that will be compulsory as always at the GT.
Finnie Cent - June 12, 2007 04:26 AM (GMT)
Hazm - June 12, 2007 05:21 AM (GMT)
No not crap. Good. It gives you motivation to paint.
Daryl - June 12, 2007 06:40 AM (GMT)
Don,t forget that Conquest is on labour Weekend.
Hazm - June 13, 2007 09:01 AM (GMT)
Oh yes forgot about that... Can we do another date as we are probably going to go to Conquest?
the diseased and foresaken - June 13, 2007 09:36 AM (GMT)
Daryl - June 13, 2007 07:09 PM (GMT)
Conquest is a major tournament held in Christchurch which includes Fantasy,40K,Flames of War, Lord of The RIngs. LAst year there was 100+ people involved and is run by Comics Compulsion. Info so far can be found at the South Island Wargaming Forum at www,chchwargaming.org.nz.
Hazm - June 14, 2007 07:36 AM (GMT)
It is a good tournament and we went down last year. Maybe we could look at organising a club trip down if a few people are keen, but anyway we are getting off topic, if we could finalise the date ASAP it would be good.
wolverine_nz - June 17, 2007 12:26 PM (GMT)
Not to forget "Call to Arms" in Wellington its an awesome tourney as well!!!
I hear this really cool guy is umpiring 40k as well (me) :D
Would be cool to see some of you guys over here for it.
Call to Arms

I'm happy so long as you bring the trophy back ;)
Ok so it seems we must set a different date then. I will throw some out and see who is free for which, there are no holidays coming up until december so it will have to be normal weekend I'm afraid, we could however start on Friday night say and then play Saturday and Sunday. Pretty much any weekend from now really, plus a month or so for people to get their crap together and paint or whatever.
So lets say the earliest would be the 10th (Friday) - 12th of August, how does that suit everyone?
the diseased and foresaken - July 6, 2007 02:34 AM (GMT)
suites me fine...still 2000 pts?
the diseased and foresaken - July 8, 2007 10:31 AM (GMT)
so are we gona set a date for this thing or what?
Hazm - July 9, 2007 10:02 PM (GMT)
Ok, first, how many points? Second, what date?
I shall propose the 17th to 19th of August at either 1500 or 1750pts. How is that with everyone?
the diseased and foresaken - July 9, 2007 10:59 PM (GMT)
the date is good for me and the pts value should be fine ^_^
the venerable fighting spaniel - July 10, 2007 06:05 AM (GMT)
Hazm - July 11, 2007 05:29 AM (GMT)
Which points? 1500 or 1750?
the venerable fighting spaniel - July 11, 2007 08:24 AM (GMT)
I honestly dont mind at what points level we play at. What ever will get the most players would be the best option, so I'd have to say 1500pts. Personally I'd like to know asap so I can start playing around with army lists etc..
++Note++ Are we going to have cities of death games, if so I REALLY need to know now so I can pull my finger out and get my city done (well 4x4).
Hazm - July 12, 2007 01:46 AM (GMT)
I think it would be good to have some CoD games, adds an extra challenge to trying to make your army good in both CoD and normal games. Lets go 1500 then, I don't think there is anyone who can't make that. So that leaves these people likely to play: Me, Digl, Otis, Dan, Che, Robert, Rory, Alex, Finn and possibly also John, Greg, Leon, Anthony, out of towners. Anyone I missed?
Finnie Cent - July 12, 2007 03:21 AM (GMT)
If Rory's there tim will be too lol... Just a suggestion, how about we have like one round where there's a four player game or something, maybe the last game of the tournament? Personally i just get bored playing one army different table for three days straight... :ph43r:
