Title: Legendary Game
Description: Let's go.

Hazm - April 15, 2008 11:57 PM (GMT)
Ok then chaps I am keen to have a go at one of these games, using the rules GW put out recently (I put them in another thread in this section).

So we can either do a full day or a late night. Personally, for the sake of people's attention spans, I think it's better to have a day. So if that is the case we can see about getting the hall for a whole day, Sunday or Saturday. Preferably Sunday. Starting at 10ish and going until we're done.

I say just try and get as many models on the table as possible, we are at a stage now where there are a few players now who could play this thing and it's the kind of thing where a new player can easily compete and have fun, getting help from allies and what not. For people thinking of starting (Connal) or even people who just want to come and have a game, even if they aren't considering starting.

So. I have something like 4000 points of Tomb Kings and maybe 3.5k of Orcs, plus a heap of unpainted Night Goblins. Depends on how strict we want to be on painting, personally I reckon just put as much stuff as possible in, even if it's not painted. So that gives me a total of about 9000 points. I can also lend stuff out to people like Loff to even up sides if needed.

So we have got people that can play thusly: Me (9000pts), Digl (approx. 6000pts), Che, Greg, Finn (Dad won't want to play so that's about 6000pts of Empire), Loff, Troy, Robert, Connal. There is also about 2000 points of Daemons sitting on the shelf at home which we could use somehow as well as a few Skaven left over which Connal could maybe combine with his warband for a small army.

So who's keen? And do we have a date which would be good? I'm thinking some time in the holidays, just consider that we also have the tournament on the middle weeekend.

Sir Thrustsalot - April 16, 2008 04:02 AM (GMT)
I'll be keen. I agree on the day game that way we don't have to worry about peoples bed times
I think we should try and use painted models, It'll look better for the pic's then
I'll try and find out what days I've got hockey.
I'll go and work it out but I think I've got about 3.5k dwarfs

Hazm - April 16, 2008 04:55 AM (GMT)
Cool. Do you employed chaps have any weekdays free? That's probably the easiest time for getting the hall and people are usually less busy.

Rob - April 16, 2008 07:03 AM (GMT)
ooh i bags using some Daemons.

The Real Che - April 16, 2008 09:22 AM (GMT)
I won't have any days free through the week but I will be keen for this if it is on a week end. Depending on how much interest is show you might need to look at a couple of days.
I agree with greg about painting, but it's all good either way - it will mean I can get a few more models on the table too.

No! :( unfortunately us employed people are slaves to the system

I can do 3.5k easy although after that things get unbalanced.

Also one BIG! problem with these big games is we just seem to play them out of the blue so afterwards the game seems more like a random one off novelty with no real conclusion. Why not figure out the sides some time soon then play three or so one on one games with different opponents from the opposing side and collect all the points up. The losing side play the defensive role in the big game while the winning side play the attackers. I know it seems overwhelming to create storeys and special rules/scenarios and then follow through but if we keep it simple I think it could make this big game really sweet and we'll have a lot more reasons to remember the big game and the events leading up to it. All we need is one simple story like the nemesis crown. A potent magical item that if the evil side get it they could enslave the world. Or
An evil force invading the lands of the good races. If the evil side wins the pre-games they play the attackers in the big game trying to crush the good side.

Scenario: A nominated building is the goodies H.Q if the baddies capture this they win a minor victory. The main building plus half of the minor objectives, Solid victory. Main building plus all minor objectives, massacre. If the good side stop the baddies from occupying the building in the set amount of turns and/or time they win a minor victory. Building + half objectives solid victory and so on.

The Real Che - April 18, 2008 05:45 AM (GMT)
I reckon it would be sweet to incorporate some siege rules an a castle for the defender. Not a full blown seige game - just one area of the defenders board that a giant or stegadon could smash their way through

Hazm - April 18, 2008 09:01 PM (GMT)
Yes I like the idea of a castle, but instead of making it "you win if you capture it" I reckon just make it worth more points than the other objectives as otherwise people might just concentrate everything there so it ends up as a normal game in the middle and some little skirmishes around the sides.

I'm thinking if we go with the points per objective = the turn number we could have the castle worth something like 40 points if you hold it at the end, about the same amount as holding 2 objectives every turn.

As for the fluff, do you want it to be good vs. evil? If you do it might be difficult as I think most armies are good (Lizards, Dwarfs, Elves, Empire) and not many evil (Orcs, Chaos). Tomb Kings are pretty neutral. The lead up games sounds interesting though if you could figure out a way for it to work, and it adds a bit more team involvement so everyone feels like they are influencing the final battle and you are part of a team for longer so you can build up tactics and lists. Maybe find some way of adjusting the points or deployment based on the results of the lead up games. For example if the Dwarfs beat Orcs then maybe they have delayed them from arriving at the big battle and the Orcs only come on in turn 2 or have to roll for some units arriving later.

Throw some ideas out there.

I'm interested. Happy to just play a small part. Don't want to slow it down too much with my n00bness.

Sounds like a great idea we'll go with that.

As for tomb kings being neutral that’s B.S they are evil un-dead abominations that are an affront to god himself.

Hazm - April 20, 2008 06:03 AM (GMT)
Yes but they don't make a distinction between who they kill. If it bleeds it dies. And if it doesn't bleed it's other undead which is even worse...

Sir Thrustsalot - April 20, 2008 06:12 AM (GMT)
Che had a good idea on Friday of fighting for control of those special features in the back of the rule book. If we choose three features to fight over before the games start then in each of the pre-games the collective side that scores more victory points on the day/night wins control of the selected feature for the entire big game.
All we need to do is pick three features and have a even number of opponents on the day/night. This means if a couple of players can't make it to all of the pre-games it wont matter (this being a big problem of previous campaigns)
It's easy, we don't have to remember much and we don't need every one to turn up three gaming day/nights in a row and risk people losing interest.
Plus it gives everyone a sense of purpose in the three pre-games (and more bragging rights / or grudges to settle in the big game)

The Real Che - April 20, 2008 09:03 AM (GMT)
Harry plays undead.

They are evil.

End of story.

Also, Harry is a beardy cheat.

Hazm - April 20, 2008 09:42 PM (GMT)
Evil to us humans but that's because we're alive. Chaos think Empire are evil. Chaos also think Tomb Kings are evil.

But who really cares?

And many people mistake winning for cheating. People are astounded that I can smash them so easily when playing by the rules so they are forced to create a reason behind their loss, in order to ease their own insecurity after being beaten by a child.

The special features thing sounds interesting, I'll have to have a read of what they do first. And how many build up gaming sessions do we want? I'd say no more than 2 or 3.

Sides could be: Hazm (5000pts), Digl (5000pts), Finn (6000pts), Connal (500pts?) vs. Greg (3500pts), Che (5000pts?), Loff (4000pts), Ro0bert (4000pts, incl. Daemons). That's 16500pts a side exactly. Man I'm good. I know that's not good vs evil (Lizardmen and Daemons might be a stretch) but if it was it would be Hazm, Ro0bert, Loff, Connal, Digl's Goblins vs. Che, Greg, Digl's Elves, Finn. Apart from a big points difference I don't think those teams is fair.

Sir Thrustsalot - April 24, 2008 07:02 AM (GMT)
We should at least try to have fair teams and armys that make sense. But how the hell we would get there is beyond me.
Lizzard men, Dwarfs, Elves and empire.
Tomb kings, Gobos, Chaos, and what else.

Loffisky - April 27, 2008 08:09 AM (GMT)
Wow, 4000 points! Man, I won't know what to do with that many models...

Digl - April 27, 2008 09:20 AM (GMT)
Put them in the cupboard to collect dust. Duh.

Paradox - April 29, 2008 12:24 PM (GMT)
Yoyo chaps, I'm in Bordeaux. I bought a Lizardmen Battalion and some Tupac Skinks fo a hellava lot cheaper than in NZ. When is this legendary game planned? I won't be able to have painted lizards, but I could maybe borrow some units? Could I organise a modelling day sometime aswell when I get back as well?

See you in a week and a half.

P-dox

Hazm - April 29, 2008 08:30 PM (GMT)
We decided last week to limit the numbers for this first one as otherwise it gets too hectic. So I think we'll keep it to people with over 2000 points just so it all runs smoothly and quickly. In future, if this one goes well, we can see about having more people. Sorry to anyone who will miss out.

And Troy you're best not to play a big game if you've just started or it will break your brains.

Does this mean i'll get to play?

Hazm - April 30, 2008 10:19 AM (GMT)
Do you have 2000 points?

Loffisky - May 1, 2008 04:53 AM (GMT)
I don't own 2000pts... but would I be using your orcs? Cos with them thats a different story...

Touche. Would I be able to possible organise a modelling day with a Lizardman player? (Looking at you Che). And, now the tourney is over, should we try a slighlty different competition, like a painting one? :pistols:

And are Lizardmen good, evil, or just misunderstood?

We were planning a modelling day for before the big game so you could come down for that. As to whether Che can be bothered helping you is for him to say ;)

Good. They were the first race in the world and served the "old ones" who created all the other races. They mostly hate Chaos but they usually kill anything which comes into their jungles.

If i read and spoke French, I'd do just that. It's considerbly cheaper there.

I read in the rules for Legendary Battles in the allies section that Empire can't go with Wood Elves. Do Empire not like Woodies?

Loffisky - May 12, 2008 04:02 AM (GMT)
I think it's more that Wood Elves don't like Empire... or anyone for that matter...

Digl - May 12, 2008 06:01 AM (GMT)
Na. They fought with Chaos in the Albion thing I think I heard somewhere. They must like being on the same side as those sweaty, muscley Marauders...

To quote one of our members -who shall remain anonymous-
'How do high elves reproduce if they're all gay?'

I think the slightly stronger "fags" was used but that might be a bit strong for this PG13 Forum.

The Real Che - May 12, 2008 12:01 PM (GMT)
Nope, I definitely said Fags.
