Any critiques? 'Tis my new sig, anyone think it's an improvement?

Man, I really wanna get better at Gimp. x____x

SyphonVectorman - May 17, 2008 01:59 AM (GMT)
It matches your avatar in colour, so I guess it's ok...

I dunno, i guess it looks ok. What is it an improvement of?

EmpressCrystal - May 17, 2008 02:49 AM (GMT)
Wow u used my fav border.

The background pretty...u did a awesome job it fits in so good with ur render. I love the text too.

Nemo - May 17, 2008 03:18 PM (GMT)
Well, basically, is it an improvement from my last signature?

And yeah, I saw that border and since I never used it before I was like "...I must!" XD

SyphonVectorman - May 17, 2008 05:41 PM (GMT)
The text is more visible and I guess when I first saw it, I thought it matched the forum's skin.

Good job. S:

Kuzul - May 19, 2008 03:09 AM (GMT)
I like the matching.

Nemo - May 24, 2008 03:37 AM (GMT)

Joy is my favorite, I like how the effects flow with the font, and the stock blends with the sig color wise. The shapes and the border style you use merge with the ensuing contrast especially well.

The other two, while I like the overlay effect, end up a bit hazy, which can make the ye glaze over. That's probably what you were going for, but it's nice to have a solid focal that draws the eye in each sig (the second suffers form the same slightly as well, but less so because of the contrast). It's not something I always abide by myself, but it's a good practice a lot of the time.

Just my thoughts though, signature criticism is a fairly selective bout.

Nemo - May 24, 2008 11:05 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I don't like the other two that much either, but I guess they're a step up from my old ones. E:

Thanks for comments~

EmpressCrystal - May 25, 2008 03:51 AM (GMT)
Joy is my fav too....along with the first one.

Nemo - May 26, 2008 01:23 AM (GMT)
Thankyew, EC.

I love what you do with the edges of the first one the others ones are okay the first is my favorite good work.

Kuzul - June 18, 2008 04:15 AM (GMT)
...Woah,I really like the last one D: It's awesome.

madmax3 - June 18, 2008 05:49 AM (GMT)
Love the first one, blends in really nicely, the text works and the edge border thing looks nice.

Great work!

Nemo - June 18, 2008 03:46 PM (GMT)
Thanks, guys. -:D-

Bane - June 18, 2008 05:10 PM (GMT)
I like the border experimenting you did with the first one, but the contrast overshadows (pun) the lovely subtleties you put into the background, though I suppose thats' the price you often pay for a good focal...

The second one is a bit mundane in it's own way. Simplicity and subtlety seem like a good idea, but often can end up in a rather drab execution. Loevly in it's won way, but could use some refinement of contrast.

The last on is probably my favorite, the brushing is effective, but not busy, and works very well with the font style as well as the render. The patchwork adds a nice level of subtle complexity to the sig to make it catch the eye, but doesn't detract form the focal point of the render.

Mgs - June 18, 2008 06:16 PM (GMT)
Yes i love the fist signature nemo!

Nemo - June 18, 2008 07:33 PM (GMT)
Thanks more, especially Bane for taking the time to actually write all that. rofl.

Xarina - June 22, 2008 07:32 PM (GMT)
I think the first is really pretty and has a cool unique style. The second looks really boring to be honest. I think the third is really good too and has nice text work.

Nemo - June 22, 2008 07:33 PM (GMT)
Thanks, and yeah the second is plain. I had to make a sig with song lyrics and I liked those lyrics...it was hard to think of pics to fit it.

Xarina - June 22, 2008 07:34 PM (GMT)
ahh I see, yeah I also think that can be hard to get good inspiration for.

Nemo - June 22, 2008 07:38 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I had a good idea..though it's kind of hard to explain. It was a griffin flying upward at an angle so that you could see its back and wings from the center as it was angled towards the top-right corner, into a pool of warm glowiness. But...I'd have to draw my own griffin, and I suck at using a tablet. xD

Yay! I merged some topics. So here's another from a SOTW contest..
