Inverkip started their West of Scotland Cup run with an extra time win against Glasgow Caledonian University at home. Inverkip started the game in a 3 4 3 formation with Tosh dropping into sweeper and Gaulty coming into the right hand side of defence, Claey opted for a 4 5 1 formation, the Glasgow team had the better of the early stages with Inverkip finding it hard to adapt to playing against one forward up front, it was no surprise when Caley took the lead when their centre midfielder scored from a knock back from their number 9, after this Barry came on for Stuart who had been injured after a bad tackle, Inverkip came into the game and scored from an excellent corner from Chipper when Mackers scored with a header at the back post, after this Mark had some fine saves to keep the score level going into half time. In the second half Inverkip had most of the play but this came to nothing, we made some changes and Tamba and Dougan came on, Tamba had guaranteed the sideline that he would score two goals when he came on but....... :D Inverkip went a goal down after some good play from the Caley midfield and this led to their number 9 finishing well past Mark. Caley seemed to settle for this and Inverkip got level when Scott shot low past the keeper, despite more pressure from Inverkip the 90 minutes finished level. In the first period of extra time Inverkip's fitness showed and a cross from Joe led to the third Kip goal when when Scott scored with a header, obviously Scott's new fitness regime is only meant to last for 90 minutes as his celebrations were cut short by cramp! :D The second half of extra time continued with Inverkip in control and when Caley changed their formation to playing three up front Inverkip took advantage when a long pass to Scott led to the final goal when he squared the ball to Craig who finished well. A good result today and a solid performance. My man of the match goes to Mark who had some fine saves :kipscarf:
