How’s it been to see your life splashed across every gossip rag for the last six months?
I don’t look at this stuff. It’s toxic. I just followed my instincts in doing work. I’m grateful for it and just trying to do my job the best I can.

Are films like Rumor Has It and Derailed a bit personal swerve for you? You’re Rachel from Friends , after all…
Yeah, whatever the persona is, that has not granted me the opportunity to do other types of roles such as this. There was definitely a moment of, ‘Oooh gosh, I hope I can put this off. ‘But, then, I had enough people around me really believing in it. It’s interesting to take this persona and put it in this part. That doesn’t always happen and so I really appreciate that.

Derailed , in particular, is something a fair bit edgier than we’ve seen you in before, right?
It’s a sexy, psychological thriller. It was being a moral sexual creature and I haven’t been able to do that before.

We gather you have a rough sex scene with Clive Owen…
I got some good bruises on my legs! It wasn’t pretty. But your adrenaline is running so you don’t feel it. It was so choreographed and so technical, but it wasn’t as hard as it is actually to watch now.

Derailed ’s about infidelity and The Break Up with Vince Vaughn is pretty self-explanatory. Should we be reading into these choices?
The movies that I’ve been a part of lately have reflected something that’s been happening in my life, oddly enough. That happened to me on Friends, too. Especially with the last one being The Break Up , you have this great opportunity to channel every energy into something that just feels great-and is turning something very negative into a good thing like that…
