Alana made sure the merchildren were cared for before she left for her solitudinal journey to the now thawed Lake, where her father, King Triton had passed from being frozen in the 100 year winter. Every now and again she needed time to think about her responsibilities as Queen and discuss things with the souls of past royalty. It was a Royal Mermaid tradition.
Swimming along the river to the Lake near shuttering wood, she chanted merpray to Poseidon, the sea god. She liked to meditate while swimming solitarily to the place where her parents had passed. It helped her clear her mind.

Reaching the Waterfalls just east of the lake, she swam as fast as possible and with one large jump, she breached out of the water at the base of the falls. She flew through the air and up, over the falls, gliding gracefully back into the upper part of the river, without hardly a splash. A trick her father had spent many warm days teaching her when she was a mear Merchild.
She swam more slowly now. Somewhat tired from her journey and her swift jump. As she reached the lake, she swam to the spot where her father was honored with a carved stone at the bottom. A single conch shell was there too.

She picked it up, and rose to the surface. Raising the small end of the shell to her lips she blew air into it creating a loud and beautiful, hornlike, musical sound to wake the Gods and start the ceremonial prayer.
