Title: RBP Guild Wars
Description: Is there any interest?

Something I've been very interested in doing is a sort of "Guild Wars" in Ravnica Block (RBP stands for Ravnica Block Pauper, if you didn't get that one). I noticed on the PRE forum at wizards.com there was mention of such an event, but a lot of harshness was thrown on the buzz and it probably got hated away.

I do believe that we could raise interest in this event if we worked to iron out some of the kinks inherent in the format.

I have a lot of ideas on how to do this, but I thought I'd post here and see if any of the PDC hardcore are interested before I get too carried away.

Is there sufficient interest in this kind of an event? (It could be a one-time thing, or span several weeks.)

Being new to the format myself, I obviously can't speak for the hardcore PDC players. But, I am pretty sure that if you have some good ideas for how to make Guild Wars work in a way that is interesting for players, you would probably get plenty of supporters.

I'd recommend posting your ideas (or at least a few of the better ones) and see what kind of reaction they get. If the ideas are good, the support will likely come.

Just my 2 cents...

Well, from what I've been reading/hearing, the major complaints are these:

1. people are going to fight over the "top" guilds (Orzhov, Izzet, Simic, Gruul)
2. Ravnica block is a stagnant format; all guild decks will look the same
3. Ravnica block as a format is too close to Standard

In my dream world, this would be an on-going competition, an eternal struggle between the guilds. To keep interest up (if there ever was any to begin with), players would obviously need to be able to do different things from event to event. So I thought that we could:

1. accept no more than 10 people per event, one per guild
2. restrict the number of times each player may choose each guild
3. keep a scoreboard not only by player but also by guild

#1 might not be necessary considering the seemingly lackluster response many people have to playing the RBP format.

#2 is somewhat dependent on people's dedication to the event. Otherwise we'll have people who only play when they can be Orzhov, and then never show up when they have to be Selesnya.

#3 would be cool because each player would be ranked, but each guild would also be ranked, regardless of who played each guild.

Another option is to have slight variations on the format each week. We can do a week or two of "straight" Rav Block Pauper, then permit a certain # of cards from other blocks, or try any number of other gimmicks. But the "guild" should always be the focus, so there should be a core requirement to make it a guild deck... running X cards from Rav block with the guild watermark on them, or so forth.

Chime in, folks.

I'd really like to see this happen, just because it would be a fun event. I hadn't really considered requiring every guild to be represented, but I'm OK with that if we need to. In order to avoid people choosing certain guilds last, we might want to assign them randomly, or something like that. Or maybe let people pick random numbers in order to see who gets to pick first?

The biggest issue I see with such a format is that it's tough to say which cards are truly guild cards. I guess you can just allow any card in the guild's colors in block, but that's going to result in a lot of decks that start 4x Last Gasp 4x Disembowel etc. It would be nice to only allow a certain number of cards that don't use the guild mechanic or name, for instance.

I think this would be a great idea for a pdc event. Although I would probably prefer instead of the guilds to have Ravnica block pdc events. Although if this were to ever come true I would participate.

Block is looking a lot less controversial to establish the rules for, so right now it seems like that's what will happen.
