A family photo shows Miguel Oliveras and his mother, Myrna Gonzalez. Portland Police handout photo A Boston woman has asked for the public's help in finding her son, who was last seen at a Portland strip club more than two weeks ago.

Myrna Gonzalez met with reporters at the Portland Police Department on Wednesday to ask that anyone with information about what happened to her son, Miguel A. Oliveras, contact police. The 24-year-old Boston resident was visiting his ex-girlfriend at Platinum Plus on Riverside Street on Sept. 2, and friends and family members haven't heard from him since.

Gonzalez says it's unusual for her son to go for long periods without contacting his family. "I just want my son back home," she said.

Oliveras visited his ex-girlfriend, who was a dancer at the club. Although they were no longer dating, the two were still friends and she sent Oliveras the money for bus fare to come to Portland on Aug. 31, police said.

On the morning of Sept. 2, however, the woman asked staff at the club to have Oliveras leave because he apparently expressed discomfort at having other men tip her, police said. He left without incident and was last seen in the parking lot at 1 a.m. with an unidentified white male, police said.

Oliveras had little money, no car and no cell phone, which has increased the concerns of police and the family that something may have happened to him. Investigators say they're concerned about Oliveras, but they stopped short of saying they suspected foul play.

The last time a person was reported missing from Platinum Plus, the case led to a murder charge. Robert Wagner, 28, of Gray, who was initially reported to have disappeared from Platinum Plus on Feb. 15, was later found dead and police charged one of his former friends, Steven Clark, with murder.

However, the circumstances were much different. In the murder case, Wagner left the club with a group of friends and did not return - though Clark claimed that he had brought him back to the club.

Police said they have been investigating Oliveras' disappearance since they learned about it from Boston police, interviewing club employees, patrons and reviewing security tapes. They decided the timing was right to ask for the public's help to find other witnesses.

Oliveras is the father of two children and is unemployed. Police ask that anyone with information contact 874-8533.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Police Search For Missing Boston Man
By News 8 WMTW

UPDATED: 12:16 pm EDT September 20, 2006

PORTLAND, Maine -- Portland police are asking for the public's help in locating a missing Boston man.

Miguel Oliveras was last seen on Sept. 2 walking with an unidentified man in the parking lot of the Platinum Plus nightclub on Riverside Street, they said during a news conference on Wednesday.

A doorman had asked Oliveras, 24, to leave after one of the club's dancers complained about him, according to police.

They said Oliveras had arrived by bus in Portland on Aug. 31 and that his former girlfriend worked at the club.

Oliveras' mother, Myrna Gonzalez, told reporters that it is highly unusual for her son to not contact his family for this long.

She said, "I just want him back. I just want my son back home. If somebody knows anything, please come forward and just call the Portland Police Department."

Police said that nothing so far in their investigation points to foul play, but they are concerned about the circumstances.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Portland Police Department.

Portland Police Searching For Missing Man From Massachusetts

Portland police are asking for help in trying to locate a man from Boston who was last seen over 2 weeks ago in Portland. 24-year-old Miguel Oliveras took a bus to Portland to visit a former girlfriend.

The former girlfriend works at the Platinum Plus nightclub on Riverside Avenue. That's where Oliveras was last seen leaving the club with an unidentified man on September 2nd.

Oliveras has two children and lives with his mother in the Hyde Park section of Boston. His mother said he would never stay away this long without contacting her.

Police say they're very concerned because Oliveras had very little money on him and no way to get around.

"He had no luggage, no acess to a vehicle, no cell phone, no bank accounts, so his resources are limited. Given the time that's gone by, it's very unusual that he hasn't contacted his family," said Lt. Vern Malloch from the Portland Police Department.

Police say the only person Oliveras knew in the area was the former girlfriend he came to visit. They say she has been cooperative in the investigation.

Oliveras was wearing a grey camouflage long sleeve shirt with a white t-shirt over it, green cargo shorts and sneakers when he was last seen. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Portland Police Department.

Missing man's mother continues her quest for clues

By DAVID HENCH, Staff Writer

Monday, November 13, 2006

"It's killing me. I miss him and I want him home," said Gonzalez, who has come to Maine a half-dozen times since her son disappeared Sept. 3. Often she hands out fliers in front of Platinum Plus on Riverside Street, though she's also gone as far north as Lewiston. The leaflets show her son's face and give a printed description and telephone number.

"My expectations are that someone knows something within the club and that they will speak," said Gonzalez, who plans to be back in Maine this weekend. "I just want something, if they know anything, to please call police, even if they want to be anonymous, say something."

On Sept. 2, Miguel Oliveras of Boston was visiting his ex-girlfriend where she worked at Platinum Plus on Riverside Street, and friends and family members haven't heard from him since. Although they were no longer dating, Oliveras and the woman were friends and she sent him the money for bus fare to come to Portland, police said. However, the night he disappeared, the woman had asked staff at the club to make him leave because he was discouraging men from tipping her, police said.

Oliveras left without incident and was last seen in the parking lot at 1 a.m. with an unidentified white male, police said. The management at Platinum Plus declined to comment on the case.

Police have little else to go on.

"There have been no new developments," said Lt. Vern Malloch, head of detectives for Portland police. "It's still an open and active investigation."

The concern for Oliveras remains because he has not made contact with his family and has no money, no car and no cell phone, Malloch said.

His mother said his disappearance has been torture, particularly since she knows he would contact her if he could.

"This kid lives with me. He does not go two or three days without calling me," she said. Gonzalez said there have been times she was too distraught to work, and she worries for her other son, who is 13.

"He's starting to break down because he knows his brother would not do this," she said.

Her fear is that something terrible has happened, that he has been killed. "That's something that goes through my mind now every day, and I try to get those thoughts out, but I do feel someone hurt my son," she said.

It is disheartening to Gonzalez that the last time someone reportedly disappeared from Platinum Plus, in February, it turned out they were murdered. However, in that case the person reporting the disappearance was ultimately charged with killing the victim, a one-time friend, somewhere else.

Police ask that anyone with information about Oliveras' disappearance call 874-8596.

NE Unsolved: Miguel Oliveras

Feb 10, 2007 | 3:39 PM
Category: News

Tonight's NE Unsolved (2/10) is about Miguel Oliveras, a Boston man missing since early September.

Miguel's mother reached out to me several weeks ago and told me how her son disappeared during a weekend trip to Portland, ME. Miguel was last seen leaving a strip bar called the Platinum Plus with an unidentified man. No one knows if Miguel ran away, fell victim to violence, or OD'd. This is a very baffling case. Myrna, as well as Abby Torres, the mother of Miguel's two children, is desperate for information. No one has seen or heard from Miguel in five months.

Miguel's Last Steps

There was a bit of a turf struggle between Boston and Portland, ME over who should be investigating this. To fill the gap, Miguel's mother, Myrna, has hired noted Boston private eye Tom Shamshak to find out all he can about what happened to her son.

Myrna doesn't have much, so if you'd like to help her pay the cost of this investigation go to any Citizens bank, and make a donation to the Miguel Oliveras Fund.

Also, if you have any information about this case, especially if you can identify that man in the surveillance tape, please contact these numbers:

Portland, ME Detectives: 207 874-8524

Shamshak Investigative Services: 1 800 422-0944

The family has also set up a website at www.migueloliveras.com

Thanks for your help,

Bob Ward
