James (Jimmy) Hendrickson...

...disappeared June 12, 1991. He was 12 years old, anglo, with blond hair, blue eyes. He was 5-feet-5-inches tall and weighed 140 pounds.

Jimmy would have entered the sixth grade at Amphi Middle School in the fall, but after spending the night with the relative of a family friend near West Grant Road and North Oracle Road--something he often did--he got up in the morning and said he was going home. Possibly, he stopped at a convenience market near Oracle and Grant roads.

Extensive searches turned up nothing. A psychic declared he'd died a cruel death. Few leads have turned up in the case; one man was questioned in the disappearance but never charged.

Jimmy's father lives in Michigan and had not been in contact with his son for several years before he disappeared. Jimmy's mother, Debbie Hendrickson, has since moved from the state, but she keeps in contact with police.

Details of Disappearance

Hendrickson spent the night of June 11, 1991 at a cousin's house; he was staying with the cousin while his parents were out of town. He told his cousin that he was walking home the following morning on June 12, 1991. A witness saw Hendrickson walking near Oracle Road and Grant Road in Tucson; this was the final confirmed sighting of the child. Hendrickson may have stopped at the 7-11 or Circle K convenience store in that vicinity before attempting to head to his home. He has never been seen again.
Hendrickson resided in the 200 block of east Delano Street in Tucson in 1991, and was scheduled to enter the sixth grade at Amphi Middle School in the autumn of that year. He did not have a history of running away in 1991.

Hendrickson's father lives in Michigan and had not been contact with his son for several years prior to 1991. His mother has since left the state of Arizona but remains in touch with law enforcement. A male suspect was questioned in the years following 1991, but he was never charged in Hendrickson's case. Foul play is suspected in his disappearance.

In June 1991, 12-year-old Jimmy Hendrickson went to stay with a family friend while his mother and sister went out of town.
The next morning, Jimmy was gone from the home in the 700 block of West Paris Promenade Street. He reportedly decided to go get breakfast on his own, Jimmy's sister, Tammy Tacho, said. He never made it back home.
Tucson police said at the time it was unlikely that the boy had run away.
Investigators talked to all of Jimmy's friends and checked tunnels and abandoned homes in the area where he was last seen, but found nothing, according to Arizona Daily Star archives.
His mother made and distributed 200 fliers with Jimmy's picture on it.
Today, Jimmy would be 30 years old. On his birthdays, May 15, his family releases yellow balloons, Tacho said. This year, Jimmy's mother couldn't bring herself to do it.
Jimmy is listed on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Web site.
