Title: working on the rabbitry
blpipers - November 20, 2009 03:27 PM (GMT)
Pete spent a day hanging insulation and paneling on some of the walls in the barn. he also built me a new work area, so far I think it is coming along nicely---we still have alot more projects to complete, but I wanted to share what has been done so far. When we finish the entire barn with the insulation and paneling, we want to lay tile floor over the wood...I believe it will make cleaning alot easier!

In the corner is my new work area...complete with a bigger light

This is where we have the bucks (for now)

The doe side. I have my ELops in the middle under the window.

Its time for me to get my insulation up, too <_<

It was actually an old shed that we have been fixing up. It is 14 x 18 and we have plenty of room. We also built an area off of it that has a roof and we have hanging cages out there. I use to keep the Cals. and Thriantas in it because the hanging cages are very big....now it is mainly used as a chicken coop and where we put any sick bunnies.
When we decide to buy our own piece of property, we are planning on building a much bigger barn...something along the lines of 24 x 32!!!!!

Where did you get the cages from?
blpipers - November 21, 2009 11:17 PM (GMT)
Some of the cages were purchased at walmart (they are the one's that are folded down...we don't use them much any more) most of the other one's I bought from a breeder going out of business and the stackers were payment from a job my hubby did for someone.
When the new barn is built, I'm going all stackers!

Wow! You're lucky. Is your hubby a rabbit person? I wish my hubby thought big like that, but he's not a rabbit person. :(
blpipers - November 22, 2009 11:55 PM (GMT)
Yes, he is. He loves to show the bunnies and is WAY more competive than I am. As of right now, he is ahead of me in points and wins and is almost impossible to live with. The rabbit hobby started out being "my thing" however he is slowly taking over....I don't really mind though, cause now he wants to buy more rabbit stuff, build a bigger rabbitry and travel to more than just local shows.
It really helps out alot that he is a carpenter by trade and loves to build things. He can do electrical and plumbing as well---saves us alot of money and most of the materials we need, he brings home from jobs that he has done. He also wants to build a six stall barn (we only have 2 big horses, but he says we need the extra room.....just in case) with an office off to the side of it. I told him whatever he wants is fine with me, but he is responsible for cleaning it all!

Tell him to get ready to build me a barn :D

Awww. It's so nice to have someone to share the bunnies with. My hubby will help me on some things, but in general he just doesn't *get* the rabbit addiction. He would be bored stiff at a rabbit show. Now if it had something to do with gardening, then you would have his full attention.
