Title: Useful programs for AoDs

Swordsalot - May 6, 2007 03:49 AM (GMT)
Hey all,

Just thought I'd advertise a few programs which make running or entering an AoD much easier.

First is army builder. It is a must for someone running an AoD or entering a character whose army book you are missing. It basically is designed to choose an army for you, you tell it what goes into the army, it calculates the points, does some validity checking, and gives you the stats. It is good for AoDs because it gives you a brief summary of special rules, stats for all characters, and the effects of all magic items. You can get a demo version for free, which should be all you need. If you are a member of yahoo groups, there's a good community where you can download a demo version as well as the warhammer 7th edition data file. The community is here:
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/anarchistica/files/
The official army builder site can get you a newer version of army builder, but the demo mode doesn't seem to let you download files to let you make warhammer rosters.

The other program is a quickie made by me about a year ago to assist AoD writers. It randomly matches up fighters for the next round. This may make things fairer for people who'd usually match fighters up based on their order of entry (so first entry fights second, third fights fourth...), and should make things easier for those who'd use dice or some other method to decide fights.

Basically, you'd number each fighter (by order they're submitted or whatever), enter the number of fighters participating, and the program will pair off the warriors.
You can download it from: www.pyrogame.com/matchup.exe
(save target as)

If anyone wants to suggest improvements to my matchup program, or have ideas for other programs I could make, feel free. I'm also happy to give the source code to anyone who wants it (written in C), though it is really simple.

Also, if there are any programs others have used to help run an AoD or make their characters post them here.

I'm just saying that I use Swordsalot's matchup programme and it's quite simple. All that is required is a bit of book-keeping. It takes only minutes to use, and most of that time is just cross-referencing with entrants. Thoroughly recommended.

Meh, a matchup system not relying on inumerable pieces of paper with smeared numbers on them is not a proper matchup system. :D

Any chance this can get pinned? It's a good thing to point out to those that don't already know about it.

Consider it done.

Good thing it got pinned: I had never noticed this topic.

That looks useful. I was planning to start an AoD before Christmas, but I'm afraid I have far too much work for this...

I promise I'll start one in late December - early January.

Any chance you could make some kind of dice-rolling program? Your matchup program is extremely useful, and if I end up in another situation like the one I'm in now (where I don't have any dice :( ), then that would be great.

But if not, that's OK. I can resort to using CyberBoard.

True, but then I don't look as addicted to writing for Arenas* :P .

Oh well, cheers Sentinel :) .

*Which, to be honest, I am. Come to think of it, I'm not sure how I'd survive without this site

If you're on IRC, there's a dice rolling function there. If you're not on IRC, you should. ;)
