The HoloNet recievers comes on in all homes, buisness, and barracks as the two anchors, Reilla Skrub and Twik, smile at the recorder and prepare for the news. The shot zooms in on Riella as she begins the news report.
"Today, we have several important reports to bring you from here and the field. But first, let us start with our the biggest news we've had since Kyra became Mandalore. Twik."
The shot turns to the Gran Twik. "According to several sources, we have learned that ex-Mandalore Cassus Fett is out of his coma. It is unknown how great his condition is but we are led to believe that he is up and talking to other Mandalorians in the room. Cassus Fett went into coma over two weeks ago and has not come out of it since. Former Major General Kyra Fett took the mantle of Mandalore from him. We also believe that she is now in the company of Cassus. More will come as this is updated. Riella."
"In other news, a small drought is expected for farmers on the Great Plains. We know go to Kilbas Ra on scene. Kilbas."
On screen is the view of a large plain region with small farms dotting the area. The view pans in on a Rodian Male. "Thank you, Riella. We are now standing in the Great Plains where the third drought this year is expected to hit. Though they have only been minor, these droughts have lowered the average income of farmers in the region by 10%. A large series of rainstorms is predicted for after the week-long drought so farmers, don't worry. Back to the studio."
"We are now recieving word that a deadly shootout on Mandalore has occured. Ahhk Spekled from the Mandalore News Network is live on scene where the incident happened."
The view changes to an urban setting where a Twi'lek Male with the Mandalore News Network logo on his suit is seen. "We are getting confirmation from authorities that a man armed with an outdated E-11 blaster rifle had made his way into a street market where over one thousand people visit at one time. He then fired into the crowd of buyers and others, hitting many people. It took several seconds for most people to realize what was going on the crowd began to rampage and run in many directions.
"The man continued to fire on the retreating civilians while as Mandalorian security arrived on the scene. The gunman then took cover behind a shop booth where he fired on the security officers. He killed three before soldiers from the nearest barracks arrived and took control of the situation. The man again fired on soldiers and he was shot dead by a sergeant. Over fifty are confirmed dead while 200 have been wounded and the body count continues. The authorities are planning on having a press conference in under the hour. This has indeed been a sad tragedy."
"And yes, that is a tragedy. We will sporadically update you on the situation on Mandalore and take you there when the press conference is held. Now, on galactic news, crime has continued to rise on planets like Tatooine and Nar Shaddaa while other, formerly peaceful planets have been transformed into centers of crime. Again, no one has any actually suspects for the crimes though many believe that there are many crime syndicates that are working with one another to make profit. Officials from the Republic refuse to release any details related to their investigations as patrols around many sectors increase. Twik."
"Thank you. Today, a report was released by the University of Corellia stating that, as with former projects like Telos, planets devestated by the Grey Alliance indeed have a chance to be restored. We now go live from Corellia the head of the report, Professor Rebee. Professor, we're glad to have you."
"And I am glad, too."
"Well, it is good. So, your report, it says that planets like Ilum actually do have a chance at restoration. Please tell us how you have come to these results and how much it will cost."
"Well, first, I would just like to thank all those that were involved. We had many sources and it took many months of work, to answer your question. We evaluated the damage done to the devestated planets and came to the conclusion they were in a condition in which a restoration project could be attempted and have a chance to succeed. The approximate cost per planet varies but a project projected to last years will cost the Republic billions of credits per month."
"Interesting. Do you think the Republic or any other faction will be willing to undergo such a commitment?"
"Actually, I do believe, that in time and during a peaceful time, the Republic will start a restoration project for the devestated planets."
"Well, I hope to see that in the future."
"As do I."
"Thank you again for coming and we hope to see you on our show in the future. Now, we go back to Mandalore where authorities are now preparing for a press conference."
The view goes to a small room where many reporters and cameras are waiting. A stage with a podium showing the Mandalorian military insignia is seen while an official steps up. "Today, in the morning, a man wielding an E-11 blaster rifle walked into a crowd full of merchants and buyers and opened fire. He has killed over 66 people and injured nearly 280 others. Amongst the dead are three security officers and brother of famous podracer Ebe Roose. The man was eventually gunned down by soldiers after almost an hour of shooting. Two soldiers, seven security officers, and eighteen civilians are still in critical condition and have been rushed to several local hopsitals. We are deeply remorseful and send our apologies to the families of the victims. Thank you." The man steps down from the stage and the view turns back to the Gran and the Human.
"You've heard. This is very sad. But now it is time to go. From your favorite HoloNet news station, this is Riella Skrub."
"And Twik. Saying good bye!"
