Sub-Plot Information

Name: The Call of Conquest and Rediscovery

Description
Mandalorians, an ancient warring people with history rooted throughout the galaxy. A long and tiresome path lies before them, one that will test them in the ways of strength and intelligence. While most may think they are simply headed with one of the mandalorian fleets to conquer worlds, they are dead wrong. The true reason lies within a historical tale that has been passed down through the generations. This tale is the tale of the lost mandalorians.

QUOTE (-The Tale of the Lost Mandalorians-)

Long ago scouting and raiding parties of taung and other mandalorians were sent out to the far reaches of the galaxy to seek out and conquer planets to expand the mandalorian empire into something more than it was.  For years these scouting and raiding parties scoured the far reaches of space for habitable planets.  Some succeeded, some did not, and some never returned, their fate unknown.  One such account was that of the lost mandalorians.  Their course had been plotted just outside of the mid-rim border, planet hopping, until finally they would reach into the unknown regions.

With each planet this particular group went by, they left signs that they had been there, whether it was simple mandalorian markings or the burial site of fallen mandalorians.  Records of each stop and the path of travel were transmitted back and stored so that a route would be known on how to reach the final destination, should there be one.  From Mandalore to Bandomeer to Er'Kit to Phaeda to Adumar to Esfandia and then to the unknown regions.  That was the plotted course for the lost mandalorians.

Those who had gone did not try to conquer the planets as they made their way towards the unknown regions, but instead they simply left behind signs before moving on, until they hit Esfandia, leaving their last bit of evidence as to where they were going.  The evidence they left behind varied in several ways as the mandalorians who had been going along this route tended to stay on the world for some time before they would move on.  Some believe the mandalorians were building memorials to fallen brothers who died while fighting to try and conquer planets, others say they were building traps or other devices around information as to where they were going, and others still said that they were simply hiding things in hope to return for them at a later time.  The truth is relatively unknown on this subject, but most who've heard this legend agree that something was left behind.

Not a month after the mandalorians and taung had made it into the unknown regions, all contact had been lost with them, save the last known coordinates of the few ships that had been in the group.  Roughly a thousand or so in all went missing.  Several attempts were made to try and re-establish contact with the lost mandalorians but all were failures as something always managed to go wrong before the unknown regions could be entered.  Some say those who entered the unknown regions long ago still live, others say they all perished.

Those who believe the lost mandalorians somehow survived the disappearance continued telling the story generation after generation, letting the legend sink in.  Even some who believed the mandalorians had died some believed that there had to be evidence remaining as to where they ended up.

There are scarce records to even prove that the group known as the lost mandalaorians even exist, but the events around the time they disappeared are certain, worlds were being fought for and several mandalorian scouting or raiding parties were out and about in the galaxy seeking new worlds to conquer. It was up until recently that the scarce records were scanned thoroughly and a direction was found in which the lost mandalorians travelled, creating a second source saying the same thing. So now the little evidence of records and legend at least matched on the fact that the group known as the lost mandalorians headed towards Bandomeer when starting their journey.

Lord Mandalore herself has personally sent out a rather small scouting party to plot a course to Esfandia based on the route from the tale of the lost mandalorians, stopping at the fifth planet to await the remainder of the mandalorian fleet to conquer planets and find what evidence they need to lead them in the right direction to either other clues or something to show the true fate of the lost mandalorians.

So once again the time has come for the mandalorians to embrace their nature and wage war, but it is to uncover a great historical mystery of their people and what happened to a few thousand of them long ago. Embrace your heritage, learn the legend, take what should be yours.

QUOTE (-What really happened-)
(Knowledge not to be shared IC)
No more, or at least not long after a month of travel into the unknown regions, strange things began happening both in space and aboard the mandalorian vessels of those who were to become the lost mandalorians.  Spatial disturbances and anomolies seemed to be quite frequent and rather unexplainable.  A few within the ships somehow managed to disappear completely, but it didn't stop there, eventually an entire ship just disappeared during one of the larger anomalies.  There was nothing that could be done but continue on into the depths of the unknown region.  By this time all contact had been lost, but they kept pushing on, hoping to succeed in the task that had been set out for them.

For another two months or so the now lost mandalorians scouted the unknown regions, trying to leave signs for any followers who might one day seek them out, but still found nothing.  It was not until a few days prior to the dawn of their fourth month within the unknown regions that a very large anomaly again hit the remaining ships, although unlike the others it was catastrophic.  It was more like a storm than anything else, but somehow when it cleared up, before the ships was a planet that seemed to support life.

With so much having been damaged on the ships during the anomaly, there was no choice but to land the ships on the planet which had now been named Ca Tar for the fact it's sun was far enough away that most of the planet was covered in either a dimmer light or darkness.  As time would later tell only a few days would have almost the entire planet in light or darkness.

Six ships in all survived, each with skeleton crews and survivors of the anomalies.  Two headed for the edge of the volcanic plains where they met the sea, and four headed off towards what appeared to be groups of large islands.  From there things were inspected, after the atmosphere was found to be a Type 1 oxygen mix, which could support life.  There was no chance of repairing the ships so that they could make it back home, so most of the ship elements were used to begin what would later become mandalorian societies, still loyal to the mandalorian empire yet having no say in any of there matters, for lack of being out of communications reach.

The three major cities of the mandalorians had started small, but as time passed on they grew and grew as the population increased as fertility rate seemed to be rather high on the planet.  Soon when the larger cities began taking up most of the islands they were on, smaller settlements were also built with what was available on other close islands.  The only way to get to other larger cities or smaller colonies was through the use of the ground vehicles that could manage the journey or one of two of the ships that had survived, but was only capable of atmospheric flight.

After a few hundred years, population began declining slowly.  Even after generations of decline, there are still a fair number of surviving mandalorians living on the planet.  Although there is not enough armor to be worn by the mandalorians living on the planet, the children of each generation are still taught the ways of the mandalorians in hopes that they may one day be reunited with their brethren.

Of the survivors of the lost mandalorians, the volcanic colony was inhabited by the two ships carrying taung and humans.  The island colonies were all human.  The taung eventually were wiped out and the humans who had lived among them continued on, repopulating their own species in the volcanic settlements.

In the last fifty years civil war has erupted between the settlement on the volcanic plains and the island settlements.  The volcanic settlements chief Gaan is just as his name states, he wants.  He wishes to rule the people of Ca Tar feeling that he is the strongest on the planet and should oversee the mandalorians of the planet.  The mandalorians of the islands feel that they should all operate freely in their seperate settlements under three different overseers, but Gaan will have none of it.  Things weren't always violent, they had begun as more political talks to sway the island humans into making him the overseer of the planet, but the idea was rejected.  As later tries failed, things turned to violence that erupted into what is the Ca Tar civil war.

Features

One third of Ca Tar is oceanic. Unlike normal oceans (in our sense) the watery depths of Ca Tar are completely freshwater, giving an never-ending supply of hydration to survive. Nothing is known of what lies in the depths of the oceans as there is no way to find out. There are certainly fish in the oceans as they are a common food sourse for both islanders and coastal volcanic plains settlers. There have been rumors of larger creatures in the depths as an occassional sighting has been recorded of large, mysterious creatures surfacing for air.

One third of Ca Tar is islands. Many of these islands are tropical and have large amounts of rainfall every orbital period. Other islands, while either not being as tropical or tropical at all have rather fair weather all year round, save the occassional sea storm that occurs. The islands are capable of growing the same foods as the coastal region of the volcanic plains, but there are many wild fruits that grow on the islands, and they are plentiful most years, therefore supporting the island populations.

One third of Ca Tar is volcanic plains. The coastal region of the volcanic plains is by far safer than any other location deeper into the plains. The cool breeze from the sea and moisture level keep the climate warmer for most of the year, they also keep the volcanic eruptions to a minimum until a certain point is reached inland where things heat up more and the landscape becomes worse. However, the coastal region has become one of the most fertile areas on the volcanic plains, as the ashen ground over time has given many nutrients to the soil beneath it, with some of the farm work that has been done the ash mixed in with the soil and created better crops and has been for some time.

Above Ca Tar sit two moons, dha tar and parjai. One moon was simply named because it remains mostly dark or dim for a moon, the other was named because of the victory in surviving for long while being cut off from the thriving mandalorian culture. The sun on the other hand was simply named face of fire, because what more is a sun than a star or ball of fiery gases.

History

For millenia before the lost mandalorians arrived Ca Tar had no native species save its aquatic life, and certainly no name. Since their arrival, much of the planet has been settled on what land is available. For centuries after the lost mandalorians managed to thrive on the planet they call Ca Tar, there has been a lasting peace between the three major settlement populations on the planet.

Only in the last fifty years has any trouble occured. The trouble began when a young leader of the once taung now human settlement, Gaan, voiced his opinions about overseeing the world himself, based on being a true mandalorian because of his heritage. The other settlement overseers disagreed as they liked having their own freedom to oversee their own settlements in their own way. Time and time again Gaan tried to sway the others to let him take power but he was refused each time. He soon grew impatient with waiting for politics to take action in its way, but instead he became violent which has since turned into a brutal civil war between those of the islands and those of the volcanic plains coastal regions.

Although many of the settlers of the volcanic regions wish to remain on good terms with their island brethren of the mandalorians they dare not disobey Gaan for fear of what may happen to them. The humans of the islands also wish to end the fighting, but not give up their independence. They choose to attack only when needed, but mostly defend as Gaan is usually the one assaulting their islands.

Alright, as far as I'm concerned all the time and effort put into this has paid off just for getting as complete as it is. As far as I can see, nothing else is going to change, since it's been changing up to this point from the time I originally posted this idea. If you're interested in joining....well just say you're interested and leave the name(s) of the characters you wish to have participate.

I'm personally committing...

Hank - March 21, 2008 04:56 PM (GMT)
Hopefully we can get some more people to join in....since there were some comments related to the taking of planets before this was set up. So like I used the word "Hopefully" it draws some attention and gains a few more people, because the more the merrier and more fun it becomes.

Sounds good to me Chief.

Now I think I'll just sit around waiting for someone else to join and in doing so think of what fleet strength to bring, who to leave in charge while we're gone, and some other stuff.

Ryan Archgana - March 21, 2008 05:11 PM (GMT)
N'Jurkad Kuar will also join.

I guess it will be more fun to go with a small party instead of an army, then again I haven't read all of the sub-plot so I might want to change my opinion.... :P

QUOTE (BloodFury @ Mar 22 2008, 01:05 PM)
Dead is dead. Extinct is extinct.

Yep yep, must agree.

Hank - March 22, 2008 05:36 PM (GMT)
Alright all are "extint" although there is a reference to them as original inhabitants of the planet, but I make it clear they are extinct.

kiowion - March 24, 2008 12:13 AM (GMT)
Kiowion will jump on that.

Hank - March 24, 2008 07:32 PM (GMT)
Hmmm, a 16 year old jedi gone mandalorian. You might need some training in mandalorian ways to scrub out what you know of being a jedi before we have you fight. But that can be arranged easily enough.

So that gives us a fair number of people. Now we just wait for the scouting mission on Bandomeer to finish up before we begin. Any other wishing to join, do so soon because you don't want to be lost in something that you wish you'd have been there from the start.

Hank - March 31, 2008 12:13 AM (GMT)
To those who signed up, thanks. I'll be posting a topic on Mandalore to get this rolling....It is most likely going to be a rather brief topic, but will lay down some of the major facts of what lies ahead before the actual assaults begin.

Murtagh Trick - March 31, 2008 02:45 AM (GMT)
That will be good, Can't wait till the topic.

Hank - March 31, 2008 02:46 AM (GMT)
Topics up in the mandalore forum. Feel free to post away.

Sparta112 - March 31, 2008 02:55 AM (GMT)
