Entrevista de AXM
Supernatural’s Jared Paladecki & Jensen Ackles
Even after a jet-lagged night hoofing lager in a British pub Supernatural’s ghost-busting brothers Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles incite our horniness. Alone in a London hotel room ask the Texan pair to bump us in the night like gay ‘spirit people’. For some reason they refuse.
Words MICHAEL REYNOLDS
Young US TV stars par-excellence, Jared, 24, and Jensen, 28, breeze into our plush room the very definition of nonchalant lust appeal. Even more gallingly, they’re blissfully unaware of just how hot they are. It’s hard to think about anything other than sex, so we barely bother.
You two came second in an internet poll of sexiest fellas on TV, just behind Patrick Dempsey from Grey’s Anatomy…
Jared: You mean we were beaten by Dr McDreamy?
Jensen: Hey, it’s flattering to come behind him.
There’s a joke there… Anyway, do you get hit on by many gay fans?
Jensen: That hasn’t happened to me, at least not that I’m aware of.
Jared: That happens in Los Angeles, but it’s not like they come up to me and say: ‘I’m gay, do me!’ It’s more like: ‘I really like the show and my boyfriend likes it too.’ I had one guy come up to me and say: ‘Can I have your autograph? My boyfriend is gonna be so jealous.’ They don’t proposition me, but then I don’t get propositioned by girls either.
Do you feel like sex symbols?
Jensen: Obviously it’s really flattering to be called that, but it’s hard to kind of wear that title, a little awkward.
Jared: We’ve both come to learn that Hollywood will paint you whatever colour it wants to paint you and you don’t have much say in it. I hear the sex symbol thing, laugh, shrug it off and go back to work.
So you don’t look in the mirror and think ‘God, I’m sexy’?
Jared: [Laughs] Absolutely not!
Jensen: Are you kidding?
Have the producers of Supernatural ever pressurised you into whipping your tops off on the show?
Jared: That happened more on other shows I’ve done, like Gilmore Girls. Eric Kripke [Supernatural’s creator] is more committed to having our characters being normal guys rather than turning it into a skinfest.
Jensen: The thing is, when you get skin on camera it distracts you from what’s going on. It becomes the focal point of the scene. ‘Oh look at his chest, look at his abdominals’ or ‘Look at her boobs’… It’s too much of a distraction.
Jared: Out of 180 days filming, I only had my shirt off once. Our characters spend so much time in motel rooms so there’d be plenty of opportunities for them to say: ‘In this scene
you’re shirtless’.
Jensen: You’ll get the odd director who’ll come in and say: ‘You know what’d be really great would be if you could start the scene with your shirt off.’ That’d be just as corny as saying: ‘Can you shed a tear at this point?’
That’s a shame… Not about the tears, but the fact you won’t go topless more often!
Jared: A shame for you, maybe. I’m a little self-conscious about my body. That’s why I love to wear hoodies because you can get cosy and eat some food and your belly doesn’t show.’

Aki la traducción a ingles :)
They’re young, they’re handsome and they’re on an excellent show to be discovered this fall on TF6 and, later, on M6. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are the stars of “Supernatural” which will make you shiver but not only with pleasure.
Demons experts
Making a mini horror movie every week, that is the wish of Eric Kripke, creator of “Supernatural”. When this scenarist, author of “Jane & Tarzan”, is sent back home after the cancellation of the series dealing with the adventures of the monkey-man, he devotes himself to his favorite hobby: reading and compiling documents about the paranormal. At his place, Eric Kripke indeed owns a real collection of books about urban legends, demons and ghosts of all kinds. He can speak for hours on the Loch Ness monster, on werewolves or vampires. And, as he’s searching for a new series concept, his passion for the supernatural gives him the idea to create “Supernatural”, in which two brothers fight the forces of Evil across the United States. He’s supported in his project by McG, producer of “Newport Beach” and, together, they submit the idea of a pilot to the WB channel which is immediately seduced by its potential.
The story
From the first episode, the scene is set. The series focuses on the Winchester family. A night of November, 22 years ago, the mother, Mary, was killed by a demon. Since then, her husband John, a former Marine, has taken with him his two sons Dean and Sam, who were respectively 4 years and 6 months old at that time, in a frantic search on the trail of the killer. But as he doesn’t succeed in finding the guilty demon, John has kind of become a professional ghost killer and raised his sons as real soldiers able to face the worst horrors. Though, growing up, Sam rebelled and left his family to live a normal life, starting brilliant studies at college. The series begins with the reunion of Dean and Sam, the older coming to get his brother to look for their father gone AWOL. Together, they set off to clarify his disappearing when a tragic event compels Sam to definitively go back to a life he thought he had given up. Along with Dean, he now drives across the States in the search for John, killing all the monsters and ghosts they encounter. But their ultimate objective is still to find the demon that killed their mother.
Brothers in arms
To portray the two brothers, Eric Kripke hasn’t auditioned all the young Hollywood actors as is often the case. No, he already had two names in mind and he contacted Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, two WB regulars whose work he had really appreciated in “Gilmore Girls” and “Smallville”. Coincidence, both comedians are from Texas and have the same age difference (4 years) as the heroes they’re supposed to portray. Even though they didn’t know each other before the shooting, they immediately became very good friends. And their chemistry is visible on screen and brings a real credibility to their roles of brothers constantly squabbling. Because where Sam is studious and reserved, Dean is a daredevil who comes on to everyone who wears a petticoat. Besides, their rivalry is used as a backdrop for the show which, even though talks about paranormal stuff and is often scary, deals between the lines with family in the broad sense.
Winning season
In the States, the show immediately found its audience and the shooting of season 2 has just begun, its airing starting in September on the new network CW (merging of UPN and The WB). The first season really kept its promises, offering the fans a “true” horror story every week with, in the spotlight, urban legends like the Hook Man or famous ghosts, like the Woman in White. But, above all, we learned a lot of things about the famous demon who’s responsible for Mary Winchester’s death and about Sam’s destiny. As for Dean, through the episodes, we find out that he’s not only a daredevil soldier, but his character turns out to be deeply engaging.
Sexy
In the UK, where the show has already aired, the promo campaign used the slogan: “Scary Just Got Sexy”. And if the superior look of Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki is definitely an asset, it shouldn’t make people forget the true qualities of the show: credible plots, the creation of a fascinating mythology around the demon the Winchesters are hunting and an excellent performance. Well, we hardly see how “Supernatural” could fail here (in France), in a country which took “Buffy” and “The X-Files” seriously. Starting next fall, tune in to TF6 and, if you don’t have cable, wait impatiently for the airing on M6 in 2007.
