Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) has always wanted to escape his family’s destiny. When he was a baby, his mother was a victim of strange evil forces. Since then, his elder brother Dean (Jensen Ackles) and his father John (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) devote themselves to the fight against the occult forces everywhere they appear. But when their father disappears, Sam doesn't have any other choice but to help Dean find their father. Relying on his journal, they are crossing the United States hoping to uncover the mystery beyond appearances. On their way, they meet every kind of creatures many people consider as legends or as part of the folklore. The monsters are waiting though.

Created by Eric Kripke, scriptwriter of Boogeyman (2005), and produced by McG (Fastlane) and DavidNutter (X-Files, Millennium, Roswell), Supernatural is the latest unavoidable fantastic show of the moment. Beyond classical themes (ghosts, Wendigo, hook man, devils), the ensemble radiates an unexpected freshness. Besides, the show has dozens of references to the genre, like the scenes where the two brothers pretend to be officers Ford and Hamill (1#03 – "Death in the water"), quoting Mulder and Scully (1#01 – "Pilot"), mentionning the singer of the band Metallica, James Hedfield and his song "Some kind of monster" (1#04 – "Phantom Traveler"), before borrowing the names of two members of the band Kiss (1#14 – "Nightmare"). Without forgetting the references to Ghostbuster, The Matrix, The Simpsons, Silent Hill or The Shining. In short, a surprising show, containing references and captivating which holds lots of surprises. Notice an absence of opening credits replaced, as for Lost, by a simple frame announcing the title.

With the merger to create the CW, UPN - a small CBS subsidiary company badly distributed on the American territory – and the WB, the two smallest channels of the audiovisual landscape hope to give themselves the means to attract a larger audience. If its flagship shows like Smallville, Gilmore Girls or Supernatural didn't have any difficulties to find their place in a schedule suddenly very full, a choice had to be made between the fictions that found themselves in more difficulty, which are Veronica Mars, One Three Hill and Everwood. Everwood which, despite its qualities, has been sacrificed while Seventh Heaven, which was officially cancelled, has been resurrected to preach the good word for an 11th season. Everwood disappears at the same time as Charmed, which leaves the air after eight seasons regularly followed by a strong fandom despite the disinterest of the channel for witches. Only two new shows have earned a shot at a second season: the very good sitcom from UPN relating the childhood of the comic Chris Rock, Everybody hates Chris, and the action drama from the WB which followed the adventures of two ghost hunter brothers, Supernatural.

So, few place for the new shows which consist in a sports sitcom, The Game, derived from Girlfriends (the story of four afro-american girlfriends), and a drama entitled The Runaway, with Donnie Whalberg, about a man compelled to run away with his family because he is wrongly accused of murder. Hidden Palms is scheduled for mid-season, the new show from Kevin Williamson (Dawson’s Creek), about a problem teenager who moves to Palm Springs with his mother after his father's death.
