Title: Super sucktastic game endings
ManekiNeko - January 4, 2008 08:25 AM (GMT)
As I recently mentioned on the front page, I utterly LOATHED the ending for Crackdown on the Xbox 360. If you haven't already finished the game, you might want to skip this upcoming spoiler...
*SPOILER*
After Wang and his remaining goons have been defeated, the Voice of Optimus Prime- er, the Agency- gives you a quick pat on the back, praising you for restoring justice in the city. Then, shortly afterward, he tells you that it was the Agency that supplied the gangs with all their resources, and that it was all a plan to con the populace into accepting a police state. It's all capped off with a bullet to the brain, just to make sure you won't warn the citizens of the Agency's nefarious plot.
*END SPOILER*
I don't know about the rest of you guys, but this ending pissed me off like nothing else. Sure, it's a huge surprise, but it also negates all of your achievements in the game, and makes you feel like a sap for ever picking up the controller. Cyber-Lip on the Neo-Geo had a similar ending... after defeating the giant cybernetic lips (yes, really) at the end of the game, it's revealed that you're actually a part of an evil force that intends to take over the Earth.
So, what video game endings, past or present, really got under your skin? Games with barely any endings at all (ie Karnov) count too, but I'd rather hear about more complete endings that bothered you on a personal level... stuff that just didn't sit well with you.

Hmm, I'm one of the guys that finish very few of the games he plays, or plays games with endings that don't matter much (some fighting games, puzzle, arcade, etc.). Then the ones I do are just not that memorable (for good or bad).
That said, I have a couple:
Alien vs Predator for Atari Jaguar: I just seems to end so abruptly. One screen ending with one line of text. They do at least give you a different picture and sentence for each character, but I thought I deserved better.
On the other end of the table, there's the ending for Final Fantasy 1 on Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls (GBA). This one just seemed to drag on and on and on trying to explain a plot that didn't make a lot of sense anyway. It was a simple RPG and had a simple ending in the original (NES) version. They tried to add some meaning but somehow made you care even less. "Okay so I stopped Garland's time loop, how do I get out of this one you call an ending".
Well, that's all I got. Maybe I'll dig through my collection and try to reminisce some other disappointing conclusions (or God forbid, finish a few games).

hey jess, how are you doing? wait, didnt i ask this a long time ago? anyway, mine is still shinobi for the master system, when you beat the final boss all you get is "the end" thats all, nothing else. btw, i finally got the web browser for my wii [which is what i'm using now].

Cool, it's nice to see you again! I'm sure the Wii is much more fun to use as a web browser now that it supports USB keyboards. Why it took Nintendo so long to offer that support is completely beyond me!

The Ending for River City Ransom.
They didn't even show picture or animate anything!

Castlevania II. Didn't the "good" ending involve Simon dying and the "bad" ending involve Simon surviving for some reason? (I remember the "good" ending)
Also, the ending for The Legend of Kage was dumb, if "ninja comes and takes the princess again" can actually be considered an ending. (that said, it was an arcade game, so it's understandable that this would be the case)
Def Jam: Fight for NY: The Takeover (basically a prequel to the rest of the series, Vendetta in particular, and much more fun to play than it probably has any right to be)--you've essentially handed all of NYC to the antagonist, and you run away from the city.
Kinnikuman Muscle Generations (twice removed from the Gamecube Ultimate Muscle game)--basically just has random videos of various matches at the end.

This isn't an ending, but I'd just like to say...
Has anyone or all of you played D&D Heroes on Xbox? Ok. That first dwarf in plate armor that is supposed to be a priest? I fucking hate that guy. I hate his pacing. I hate his stupid voice. I hate his under/over/crappy dramatization.
Ok, I love Guardian Legend for NES and that ending was kinda lame.
The whole STORY for NFS:Carbon pissed me off and the ending was not only very poorly acted but ultralame.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night played as Richter!
WWHHHOOOO IT WAS REEEAALLLYY SHORT! Richter stands on a cliff looking at the castle thinking, "Hmm.. Maybe I should move in....?"
