Title: Late 80s/Early 90s fighting game
Description: Please help me figure the name out

Ok, I am trying to figure out the name of a street fighter style game from the late 80's or early 90's era. If memory serves me correctly it began as a stand up arcade game, had success, and was then made for consoles. I think the company that made it was NAMCO, but I am not positive.

The only character that I can remember from the game is a green hermit looking guy that had a metal freddy krueger type claw on one hand. I think that he would lick the blood off of it at the end of battles that he won.

If anyone can help me out with this I would really appreciate it, this has been driving me crazy for a good week now.

What, you mean Samurai Shodown (called Samurai Spirits in Japan)? It's made by SNK, not Namco. I'm almost hurt that anyone would forget such a classic fighting game.

Anyway, Gen-an (the green freddy Krueger Hermit dude) is in SS1 and SS2, but missing in most of the other games in the series (I've yet to play SS Tenka.).

Feel free to ask any other ?'s on the game though, it's one of my favorites. :)

Yeah, that sure sounds like Samurai Shodown to me as well. Although Namco did release a fighting game back in the mid 1990's which had a character armed with an iron claw. It was called Knuckle Heads, and it was featured on this site a few years ago... in a section dedicated to crappy fighting games.
