Title: Spring 2007 meetings
Description: Monster , Ouran Host Club and more

Kiroth 6 - January 13, 2007 03:35 AM (GMT)
Our first meeting will be on 1/19 at 5:30 in the Library. Viewing schedule will be posted shortly.

redcar - January 17, 2007 03:54 PM (GMT)
Now now, Haruhi and Princess Tutu and Monster were interesting enough...(and if I could finally get Eric to show Higurashi it'd be quite interesting too kekekeke)

Not gonna happen buddy, though the thought of seeing people's reactions makes me giggle :P

Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue
Here's the schedule for this Friday

1/19
Fansub Slot
Monster 47-49
Kamichu
--Break--
Kino's Journey
Ouran Host Club 1-2
Giant Robo

Remember we meet at 5:30 instead of 6 now.

redcar - January 18, 2007 05:20 AM (GMT)
Wait, we're watching Kino in SPOON? Awesome! I was meaning to finish watching that, now I don't need to drive over to the anime store! ^_^

Eric - January 18, 2007 05:26 AM (GMT)
Well if anyone has any suggestions for what they would like to see shown in the fansub slot, feel free to send me a message or hit me up during meetings. Cus so far this winter season there really isn't anything worth showing yet except for maybe Nodame , and I think I've already mined most of the good Fall 06 anime that are showable (no traps, slow "slice of life", and no boring 1st episodes that get good later). .. so I might have to go back further for stuff like NHK and NANA.. or show anime that I think weren't all that impressive. or maybe give in and show Higurashi like that redcar guy wants ;)

kellandros - January 18, 2007 05:58 AM (GMT)
Code Geass? It should be the worst cliche-ridden monstrosity ever devised, but somehow it manages to work...

Eric - January 18, 2007 06:08 AM (GMT)
hehe that is one of the anime I plan on bringing, personally don't get what is so great about it but alot of people I know online seems to love it so I'll just go with the flow :)

kellandros - January 18, 2007 08:07 PM (GMT)
Kino's Journey would be shown from DVDs. We can show licensed shows, providing we actually buy/rent the material and request permission.

And Giant Robo is there because, A. some people wanted it, and B. I still think its several kinds of awesome. Sure, Daisaku's voice is a bit annoying in the dub, but it is very hard to find multiple different foreign accents done well in Japanese.

Monster is in there at this point just to finish the @%@ thing off at this point.

Ouran Host Club is from 2006, albeit early in the year. NHK has been discussed before, and probably would have a good shot of showing up for at least one episode. Black Lagoon, Honey & Clover, Death Note, and some others all had first episodes or long clips shown last semester, but the others you list could get used this time around.

I've been wanting to push for some really older stuff, but its hard to fit it into the normal schedule. Some of the greats of the 70s and early 80s that few remember: Harlock, Space Battleship Yamato, Ideon.

Dokuro-chan? Funny for maybe the first episode, then went downhill REALLY quick(especially when they get to the diarhea...). I did find Dai Mahou Touge much better done(same creator). I'd give it some props for managing to subvert its chosen genre better as well.

If anyone wants Kino's Journey all eps, I can lend. I remember Kino getting licensed a loooooooong time ago, is it fine to show it at the meeting anyways?

Someone has the dvds, we showed a few episodes in the past.
QUOTE
even if the anime is really new, why not show episode 1 or something?

That is exactly what the fansub slot is, the first episode of one of the newest shows being fansubbed is shown. We've had it for a while now. And if it is popular, the entire thing might be shown the next semester, that is what happened with Haruhi and now Ouran.
QUOTE
Higurashi no Naku koro ni
NHK ni Youkoso
code Geass

Already on the list I plan on submitting
QUOTE
Black Lagoon 1 (if we cant do 2)

licensed, otherwise I would have already shown it a long time ago
QUOTE
Inukami (hmm probably no)

No indeed, I submitted a clip for Anime Hell last Halloween and that is the last SPOON will see of that show.. even though it does actually get good, the first episode is just too much :P
QUOTE
Sunabouzu
AfroSamurai
Air Gear
Hajime no Ippo

licensed
QUOTE
Honey & Clover 1 (and 2)

I already showed the first episode of season 1 when it first came out, there didn't seem to be much interest in it.. <_<
QUOTE
Death Note

Already showed the first episode and it got licensed recently
QUOTE
Busou Renkin

erm.. the first episode was pretty generic.. I can't believe the creator of kenshin made this.. =/
QUOTE
D-Gray

I've considered this, but the first episode is kinda sucky..
QUOTE
Karasu

Crow? Noein? Noein is licensed and I've already shown the first episode
QUOTE
Dokurochan(just for fun)

oh dear lord >_<
QUOTE
new eps of Negima!?

I've already shown the first episode
QUOTE
and the schedule posted has no new anime in there... they're all old... I'm not saying the anime listed is crap (actually most of them are good except for SOME), but come on...

then again, we do have to consider the fast that even if they are old, most of the SPOON crowd haven't seen them, or knew about them

Finding a good new completed unlicensed show that few people have already seen and doesn't have a crappy first episode is a pretty tall order, if you have any suggestions let me know.
QUOTE
I guess suggesting anime would be rather,.... non productive since almost all of them are going to get denied....

I agree with 3 of them, 8 of them are unshowable because they're licensed or I've already brought them in, and only disagree with 4.. two of those you have some reservations about yourself (dokuro-chan and inukami). d-gray I'm on the fence about since I'm having a hard time coming up with good new stuff to bring..
QUOTE
yet for the few of us who weren't satisfied, were usually heavily disappointed. And no its not one person in the club, its around a handful.

I understand that the schedule isn't all that interesting for the more hardcore anime fans, I'll do my best to keep things interesting with the fansub slot.
