Title: Lucky Star

So, I've caught up with what's currently out. I think it's cute, but not really at the level of the fuss that it seems to have generated. Obviously I like it enough to watch it all, but it didn't make me wanna change my shorts or anything. I'm slightly annoyed that the characters are 17ish but they're drawn a few years younger than that. I thought they were 13 or 14 until they said "high school" and then "blah blah I'm 17 blah blah". Also, my favorite parts have to be the people who work in the manga/dvd store that Konata goes to. The exaggerated nonsense and caricature drawing style are awesome.

There was a huge backlash against the first few episodes of Lucky Star because people gas unrealistic expectations of it being the second coming of Haruhi + Azumanga Daioh. I remember reading somewhere that LS isn't like the typical anime slapstick comedies, it is a simpler show where you can sit back and realx with and not exert much energy. In fact it has a lot in common with iyashikei/healing anime. And thank god for that, I've gotten really tired of slapstick anime comedies where people running around at 10x normal speed and screaming/freaking out a lot is suppose to be funny. What I really like about LC's humor is that the dialog isn't unlike many of the random conversations I have with friends while just hanging out and chatting.

You're right, it is rather 'normal', but just odd enough to be interesting. The fate of the world isn't at stake, but the top or bottom of that cornet is. It is rather amusing, and relaxing to watch. It's a little too loli for my tastes, but I'll live.

I've been in many spirited debates over the proper way to eat a hardshell taco :)
After I finally "got" the humor, my only real complaint about Lucky Star is that Kyoto Ani's self referential humor gets a bit tiresome at times and sometimes is just plain creepy.

YOU LIE!!!!! THAT WAS ONE OF THE MOST AWESOME THINGS EVER
lol I liked the parody of the wawawawawasuremono meme at the end of episode 13 even better, good times

That ending being creepy doesn't mean I haven't rewatched it a dozen times while giggling so loud my neighbor probably thinks I've gone mad :P

If you don't get episode 14's, then it's simply that the guy is doing the Hare Hare Yukai song and dance. As for why the end of episode 13 is funny, I posted the reason for that some time ago in the google video thread:

Taniguchi no wasuremono
Taniguchi in closed space
Taniguchi on the lone island
Taniguchi in episode 14

It's totally catering to fans by extending the meme ^_^

EDIT: NOOOO the original's gone! Here's a subbed replacement.
