Okay, this is a pretty confusing feature yet it can be very fun. Make sure you know all the rules and how it works before taking part in a quest. Here are the rules for quests. There may be additional rules added to certain quests, those will be listed in the quest thread.
1. Basic Board Rules Apply - Follow all rules of Tolkeihyme.
2. Follow Quests - You must do as the quest person instructs you to and there's no arguing.
3. Follow NPC - Incase you aren't aware, NPC is a non-player character run by all the admins. We all have access to the NPC account and we are the ones using it. You must follow what the NPC says on quests.
Now, Here is the order of events in how a quest will work: First off, a Mod or Admin will post a thread giving the rules listed above as well as any additional rules. Then they will post the details of the quest like the story behind it and how it will play out. They aren't going to give all details though because that takes away the fun of quests. Some quests are harder than others and may even have a special level requirement. The maximum is 5 people per quest and it works in a first come first serve basis where the first 5 people signed up and who meet the requirements are the ones going. Now, it is confusing to explain how it works so I'll make an example one below:
Let's say the quest is posted by Me (Ian). I tell you that my character's brother Cain has decided to post an attack on Zymonrat with a group of Altcaz bandits, but he has a spell preventing other's from coming near. I need ingredients from various places to get what I need. I may say that U know the location of two of them, but the other’s you need to find and I will post where to go first. Then look there for a topic labeled with the name of the quest, stage 1 or something along those lines.
Now, here is where the NPC account comes in. NPC plays two very important roles in quests. It’s first role is to work as a DM and make random things happen. So, once the 5 chosen character's get to stage 1, they will begin roleplaying out the scene for the ingredient they are looking for, and then NPC will randomly post things that happen. So let's say your group is together and looking for a cactus in the desert. NPC may come in and say something like, 'A massive dust storm blows up and [player a] is separated from the group. Then you must roleplay using that new detail. NPC's second role is to play any character's not player controlled such as shop keepers and bartenders etc. NPC will give you and indication of who they are when posting so you know.
This all seems confusing but once you get going on a quest it will be easy and fun. If anyone has further questions on how to use this feature, PM me.
