Title: The Falstaffs Experience

Conna - August 26, 2007 07:09 PM (GMT)
I have been to Stratford for the day today and had a wonderful day, that was until I parted with £5 and went in here. What a waste of money I thought.

Having said that I wouldn't mind going for a ghost hunt there. :)

Funnily enough, I was reading the John Peel auto/biography and came upon the following quote regarding taking acid:-

Like visting stratford upon avon, having visited it once, he saw no pressing need to do it again. :D That made me chortle for about 5 mins.

I quite like Stratford though (all bar the parking), and I've got family who live near there, so cant diss it too much. I've seen comments on here somewhere about Falstaffs, but having never been there I can't kibitz.

Yes DD - there is a bit of stuff on here re. the Falstaff, but I can't find it now??

Hasn't Rhiannon visited this place with Eerie Evenings?? Or am I barking up the wrong tree as usual?

Regards,

Nick ;)

Hiya Guys,

Yes Nick, Sharon has done the Falstaffs Experience, her comments are on the forum somewhere but i'm sure she would brief Conna again. You got the right tree this time :)

I've walked passed the Falstaff Experience, they had a man dressed in clothes from the era at the door waiting to take your money, but it's not for me, if i'm going to do it then it has to be on my terms, petulant cow that i am  I cant think of anything worse than being led by a timetable, but i appreciate that most people would enjoy it :)

We were invited to do the Falstaff prior to it becoming famous, but, just before we managed a visit, the place appeared on Most Haunted - so we cancelled. I've been asked to visit the site at least twice since then - for a magazine, etc - and I've flatly refused ......

Nick ;)

Hi Everyone.

The Falstaffs Experience is a weird little museum in an old barn, it is small and simple- designed more for the foreign tourist than the English visitor I think as it has some quite quirky stuff there. It is also expensive to investigate though my sympathies do lie very firmly with the owner who is desperately trying to maintain the building as well as Shrieves House.

In my opinion it is one of the most paranormally active places I have ever been and well worth a visit and I do think it has genuine haunted folklore despite the fact this has been used as a draw for the paying public.

I would recommend it for an overnight stay.

Love

Hi Sharon

I can understand the owners predicament and of course he/she will do what ever they feel can be done in order to make the money required for the up keep of these buildings.

But i do like quiet, un-rushed and anonymous types of venues best, even if the historical facts and folklaw are not quite as well documented as the more well known buildings, this makes for difficult research but just because the documentation isnt available doesnt mean they are a less interesting or unviable place to hold a vigil.

Each to their own i suppose, as Conna mentioned a night solely for ghost hunters might be good with-out the dressing up, timetable and charge :)

Just had a look at the Falstaff site and noticed that it was £65 per person for a ghost hunt.

Only going back a few years - prior to it's current fame - and we were quoted (something like) £50 for a group of up to 20 people.... If we promised to share a report and any photo's (allegedly showing spooky stuff) with the owner, then he'd knock it down to £25 for the night....

Not bad really - from £1.25 per person to £65 per person in a few years....

Having said that - I cannot blame the bloke if he's got bills to pay..... If I owned a historic site I'd probably go along the same lines too!!

Regards,

Nick ;)

I visited the Falstaff Experience sometime in 2004. I checked out their website and after reading "The Falstaff Experience is one of Stratford Upon Avon's most exciting and unusal tourist attractions" I thought I'd check it out.

SOMEONE PHONE TRADING STANDARDS!!! :o

It's one big theatrical setting which my eight year old niece could have staged better! Stuffed rats and cob webs don every surface, obviously trying to set a 'spooky atmosphere'. I felt nothing, I left the place feeling completely unmoved. If your into history it's probably a good place to visit but as for me whose only interest in history is if it involves murder and mystery I found it fictitious and full of historical trivia. Their using the 'paranormal activity' stunt to pull the punters (fair play). Saying that, if it was CHEAPER, I would probably do a night vigil there, just for the experience of course!

Hiya Tracy Welcome aboard ;)

Yes, it's weird that you dont always have a feeling for a place, maybe you were pre-occupied with cost and the theatricals, i know i would be, it doesnt take much to put me off my stride :( I think a relaxed frame of mind is important, all too often i find that when im pre-occupied with whatever i might as well just go home, because i wont feel or experience anything out of the ordinary.

Nick, I can see why you turned it down, such an arrangement could leave you open to suspicion on paper, It's better WMGC stays away from anything that might be seen as favours and keep your transparent reputation in tact. I might sound a bit overly cautious but if you found any evidence as such, a price deal and findings for publication could put you and your findings in a compromising position.

Due to heavy traffic on the net, i managed to cut and save my above input before the flippin thing died on me :)

They dont have to spend anything, just fire the cleaner :)

But genuine cobwebs don't look realistic enough! Not to mention that real rats don't look like people's perception of them. Aaargh, the nightmares of having done props & sound effects for theatre groups in the past.

Bloody hell Cal - yes you do sound overly cautious!!!

Come on dearie, you've known the WMGC long enough to know that it's far too late for us to get too worried about being (a) involved in somewhat 'dodgy' situations and (B) concerned about being viewed suspiciously..... :D

Nick ;) :D

O.k. but.................... Yes, sorry! ok i can see how you operate but if you did get the mother of all captures, a higher body might question, in a situation the same as discussed earlier.

Cautious Cal X

Robbo, i could supply the cobwebs for free ;)
