I like the forum and how it is set up. We just need more participation
MangoOfDeath - October 2, 2007 07:37 PM (GMT)
I agree--the only drawback is lack of participation.

Maybe we can have some kind of contest related to the forum.

Good idea. I'll look into that.

I was thinking about doing some kind of scavenger hunt, but honestly, what we really need is a contest that REQUIRES people to POST in order to win.
Perhaps requiring you to respond to/answer a certain number of posts in an allotted time period. Say...a week?
Something of that nature. If you have any suggestions that relate to this, or even ideas other than this, please share them with me soon so I can try to set something up for the next meeting.

Hm...
Well, we would have to make it somehow worthwhile for them to want to do it...
But honestly, I think that if people just started looking over the site they'd realize how fun it would be to start participating on it (at least they should), so as long as it gets them to at least look over the site it should bring in a few more active members.
I know I probably just contradicted myself--just throwing out ideas.

Hmm...well, that whole 'look over' and 'decide it's fun' thing, might work, but I must admit I am skeptical.
Now to get youth to come on the forums...that's not the major issue. It's getting the adults to participate as well. Two different objectives that will likely require two different solutions.
Just noting, that if we are depending on the quality of the forum content already present to keep members posting and active, we have already seen how well it keeps members (Jeff, Alex, Bell Gill, anyone?).
The incentive to post is correct. We MUST do that, but depending on the posters discovering the 'magic' of forum posting by reading through our current topics...not as likely to happen.

Adults will be harder. I would think that as a rule adults aren't going to be interested in chatting on a forum. Mainly because we didn't grow up in a world where this was a concept. <_<

You are absolutely correct.
I don't know any adults that post on forums; it's simply a foreign concept to them.
Just like hanging out with a bunch of teenagers every fourth wednesday. It simply doesn't happen.
Thanks for your valueable input, Riddler.

I'm sorry, was my sarcasm really that transparent?
