What would have happened if things at the end of Harry's 6th year had been different? Very different.

The school has re-opened in September 1997 for Harry Potter's final year. After the attempted murder of Albus Dumbledore (Which was bungled and allowed his survival) Serverus Snape has gone into hiding along with Draco Malfoy.

The ministry is cracking down on all possible leads to Death Eaters within the wizarding community. All of the Ministry's own Wizards/Witches of staff have been checked and double checked for any signs of alliance to the Dark Lord.

How have Voldermort's plans changed now that both Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore remain alive?

Security at the school is not on high alert as Dumbledore does not wish to esscalate the situation further. However, some ammendmants have been made, the spells guarding the castle have been modified and updated and students may now, not, freely wander in Hogsmeade except on Hogsmeade Weekends (Which includes 7th years)
