HISTORY/PLOT
In an alternate reality, countries came to the brink of nuclear war. As world leaders attempted disarmament, several global corporations moved swiftly and took control of the gathered weapons and dissolved the UN. The advanced technology at the hands of the corporations, along with the threat of the weapons allowed a world government to be put in place. There were no countries as borders were dissolved, and nationalities outlawed. Under a benevolent dictatorship of the World Council, all children born must be implemented with a chip in their minds in order to capture their every thought and so that all dissent may be silenced. Everything appeared to be at peace. There were no more wars, no more territorial disputes, but the thought police descended among the population, and people were tagged, IDed, to be moved around to where they were required all over the world. Wanting a better future for their children, the few families left who did not want their children's minds to be brainwashed by the chip, took their families underground. They built their own underground city, leeched electricity from the upper world, and created their own society and culture.
One of these cities was located underneath Taipei, Taiwan, within the subway tunnels that were long abandoned as the trains were shut down. The metro lies there, a silent testimony to what once was. There were Five Families originally, building their underground paradise. But internal disputes occured, and the Families split. Three of them remained together, two left to conquer their own territories in the tunnels. The Three families were the strongest groups remaining, and together they named their Family Flashback, a vow to return society to the way it once was. The two families who left swore that they were going to return to claim what was rightfully theirs, and they named their family Ember, for the fire that still burns inside their hearts. So the city descended into war, Family versus Family, gang versus gang, they came together in a clash of swords, a tribute to the battles fought long ago with weapons, swords and daggers, in duels and trial by combat. As the gangs squabbled, sections of the city above were reopened, the buildings cleared for a new population: the docile and obedient working society. New Taipei heads towards completion, and the thought police comes a step closer towards discovering this hidden society...
In the ruins of the modern world, society took a step back into primitive governments. The feudal glory of Flashback and the struggling democracy of Ember, which way will you choose?
