Hello! I'm your teacher, Gebo. So, first off, tell me a little about what you know about your program already. Do you have 7.0 or CS2? What other PC programs do you know well that you can relate to Photoshop. Also, go online and give me an example or two of your favorite pics by somebody else and tell me what you like best about them.

Lol! OKay! So your first assignment is to take a snapshot of your program. To do this, press the button to the right of F12. Now open it in Photoshop and use the Text tool and Line Tool to label all of the names or the tools. And if you know what the tools does, Tell me. If not, don't worry about it. Example:

Say you have the screen shot here. The have a line going from the blur tool button to the text saying #1: Blur tool

Then down below the screen shot, you would type: #1: Blur tool, [description of what blur tool does]

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. This will help me understand what tools I need to teach you about.

okies well here goes my exploration in photoshot :P

but hum i do we do that realy because i dont know were you find the thing that makes lignes to poin t and the text letter to right

Gebo - September 28, 2005 12:40 AM (GMT)
Okay. Lol! So find the rectangle tool. It's on the right, nine down. Right click on it and select line tool. This is how you can find other tools of the same type. Example: burn, sponge, and dodge or fill and gradient tools.

Gebo - September 29, 2005 01:55 PM (GMT)
Nope. Are you uploading it onto Photobucket? If so, try opening the file in Photoshop, Going to Image>Image Size and lower the resolution and document size until the pixel Dimensions are low than 250 KB, but as big as you can make it under that. Then resave it and upload it again.

-Gebo

x.X.x Mia x.X.x - September 29, 2005 08:38 PM (GMT)

Gebo - October 1, 2005 03:30 AM (GMT)
Okay, first I'm going to teach that some tools have different tools with them. Do you see how some of the tools have little arrows in the bottom right corner. Well, if you right click on those tools, you will get a drop down list of some other tools. Example, under line is the rectangle tool, the elipse tool, etc. Under the dodge tool, you see the burn and sponge tool. Under the Paint Bucket is the Gradient tool. And so on. So now I want to teach you about the window list. I like to keep certain windows open all the time. I keep the tool panel, the Character panel, the Navigator, the color, the history and the layers panels over. To open or close different panels, go to Window at the top and check or uncheck the panels you want to open. For now, open Layers, History, Color, Character, and Navigator.

Now I'll cover the most important panels and windows in PS:

The Navigator shows a miny picture of the active (clicked on) document. This is also where you can zoom in or out on the active document. When zoomed in, the can click and/or drag the mini pic of the document in the Navigator panel to look at
different parts of it.

Colors, Swatches, and Styles can be used to select colors or color something, like text, but we will rarly use it.

Character changes most of the settings of text. Like Font, Size, Main Color, etc. You can either highlight the text you want to edit while in the Text tool, or you can go into the move tool and change it all at one, if that layer is selected.

History shows you recent actions in Photoshop on the active document. So if the put Gaussian Blur on a layer, it will show up here. Also, if you want to under say your past 5 actions, you click on theitem on the list before those five. But beware, it will not store many actions at once, there is a limited number, so be careful of making too many actions that you might want to delete at once.

Okay, now Layers! The most important. But first, tell me, do you know anything about Layers at all? If so, what?

-Gebo

x.X.x Mia x.X.x - October 3, 2005 12:20 AM (GMT)
Okies got everything i think

well you are a good teacher and well go explanation i got everything at the first read

so hum layer's well you can but layer after layers to make a special background or more piccy's on the image , so hum i know a lil bit but never used it , i tryed but i realy got mad and stop the pic making well it was only a background and a piccy i was trying to make a cool pic but in the end dint work <_<

Gebo - October 4, 2005 12:26 AM (GMT)
Okay, so, for your next assignment I want you to take two images of your choice, put one on one layer and one one anoher layer. Them make sure the top layer is selected and artistically erase part of it so that some of the bottom pic shows through. I don't care what brushes or anything you use, but make it look pretty!

Here's mine:

user posted image

Now, your's does not have to be nearly as elaborate as this. I put the meadow on top of the blue and white swirly design and then used some cool brushes to erase part of the meadow. Play around, do WHATEVER you think looks good.

x.X.x Mia x.X.x - October 4, 2005 08:20 PM (GMT)
 hummmm well that one prob , i have the must hardness in that , i was never able to make two pics blend in , as put one over the other , and well its very hard , how do we make the pic go into layers with a other piccy , the erassing i know but humm it the layer's who kill me

Gebo - October 4, 2005 11:40 PM (GMT)
It's actaully very easy, Just copy one picture, Start a new document, paste that picture in, copy the next picture, and paste it in. Then, depending on which layer you want on top, you can click and drag it around in the layers palette.

-Gebo

x.X.x Mia x.X.x - October 5, 2005 12:37 AM (GMT)
 hummm i still can make it work  am so argghhh anyway i can seem to make them come togeter , i got open new first then get a piccy , then go to add layer and i try to copie and put it in and it dint work <_<

Gebo - October 5, 2005 02:05 PM (GMT)
You don't have to click add new layer. Just do EXACTLY what I told you to. And make sure the Layers palette is open. Then you can see when you have both pictures there and you can see the one beneath it.

-Gebo

x.X.x Mia x.X.x - October 6, 2005 12:39 AM (GMT)

Gebo - October 13, 2005 05:24 PM (GMT)
Okay! Those look great! Now, try taking both of those, and instead of painting and drawing on the with the paint tool, add text with the text tool. Make sure your character palette is open.

-Gebo

x.X.x Mia x.X.x - October 13, 2005 10:32 PM (GMT)
okies is this what you ask or did i get it wrong ??

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b55/xxx-...res-picture.jpg

hope not

i find it very fun making piccy's like that :D

Gebo - October 15, 2005 09:34 PM (GMT)
Great! You can also download really cool fonts online. In a later level, you'll learn about text effects.

Now, your pics are still really grainy, so make sure you check the JPEG quality. You can also raise the resolution by go to Image>Image Size.

Try makeing a pic with text that isn't so grainy.
