Description: Again

NHS

Can i just state for the record, this has got nothing to do with me.........Although it might have something to do with Inury Time.......

Still it keeps me in a job i guess......

Grumpy Old Gooner - August 1, 2006 10:28 AM (GMT)
It annoys me that the government is spending money to flash smoke-and-mirrors companies with sales & martketting people and wank managers still wet behind the ears who could not organise a piss-up in a brewery because some twat of an accountant who knows sweet FA about computer systems thinks it will save 5 quid or maybe solve all the world's problems overnight.

I am not naming names, but if you check back in the computer mags you will find that a certain company keeps getting government contracts, goes way over budget and over time, produces a pile of unmanagable crap and then...... and then... tenders for the next piece of business the government wants done, and they get the bloody contract. And they keep doing it. I just despair.

"multi-billion pound IT system"

Billion? With a B?

WTF?! What the hell does it do that you'd spend that kind of money on it? And it doesn't even bleedin' work?

Morons.

Good spot - with multi-billion, everyone in the country could have a server dedicated just to them. :haha:

Not at all. As long as you are seen by a doctor and not a computer salesman you should be OK.

Trust me the computer system in operation at the hospital in Plymouth is nowhere near multi-billion, it's not even multi-pennyion.

On second thoughts, maybe it is because of where it is located.

 nothing to do with me, managed to get a state of the art building and facilities for less than £19m!!! Now I get a 2 month project to do a business case/bid for an "interim" system (that will be around a million of your tax pounds please (the system not my salary!!!)) and all because no one in CfH will make a bloody decision on the available systems that they have appraised, oh and the bid is only allowed to be software not things like servers or pcs to actually run it on!! <_<

It sucks that all this money is top sliced from NHS to go to companies such as BT Accenture etc...who tend to sub-contract out yet if a nurse wants excel training there is no budget to cover the £90!!! :banghead:

Hey ho time to go back to work on monday to the hospital that has announced 750 reduction in staff to save a few million :doh1:

I remember when I first started work here I just couldn't believe how much people would pay for our software. I was used to buying games for a tenner, tops. And companies were spending tens of thousands of pounds for our software!

Course, the obvious difference being tens of thousands of copies of a game are sold, whereas the sort of software we do is bespoke and will save the company money in various ways.

Well. That's the idea anyway!

That's because the people who are awarding the contracts (particularly the Civil Servants) have probably read Classics at Oxford and haven't the faintest idea what would make a good, viable computer system if it leaped up and sha**ed them.

And patients are denied life saving/enhancing drugs/treatments because of a shortage of money..... :banghead:
