Title: Athletics

I swear we used to be good at this! <_<
Can't say I've really paid much attention to the European Athletics, but whenever I have flicked channels to be confronted by it the BBC always seem to be interviewing yet another British athlete who's lost and who's busy telling us that they're devistated "because the time wasn't that great and they know they could have got amongst the medals" :blah: . Well why didn't you then?

15th in the medals table with one silver medal and behind such sporting giants as Belarus an Finland.Nice to see all that lottery funding's paying off :sarcy:

Looking forward to a succesful 2008 Olympics regarding our athletes ;)

I think the best thing would be to give the 2012 games to Paris to save face.

Well,we'll go flying up that medals table now :sarcy:
We've just won a bronze :whogives: and the BBC are almost wetting themselves they're so excited.

Not just athletics, but British sport in general is a disgrace. There isn't enough encouragement and coaching at grass-roots level. How can, for example. Australia, be so much better than us when our population is 3 times larger?

Kids these days, they dont want to go out and get their designer clothes dirty and they would rather stay home and play on their consoles instead of going out and playing sports.

The whole American school system is basically designed for being good a sport.

It's also to do with years and years of underinvestment in sporting facilities in this country. For years now politicians haven't placed enough importance in sport at both national and more importantly grass roots level.
Just won another bronze ( again :whogives: )

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/athletics/4790367.stmI think Campbell is being unfairly treated. He is just making a stand on a matter which is a big principle for him. Christie being Campbell's coach is irrelevant. Those that introduced Chambers to the murky underworld must be identified and dealt with. Otherwise there will be more and more episodes of drugs in Athletics as the source of the problem is not being addressed.

It's the fault of inclusive sports in schools, "it's not the winning, it's the taking part that counts", is it bollocks. we've been so afraid of marginalising the kids that aren't competitive in sports that we've forgotten the ones that are, that want to win
and they'd have somewhere to do it if succesive governments hadn't sold all the school playing fields to property developers.

It's bonkers, the sports field is often where certain pupils who are crap at things like Maths,Science etc get their chance to shine. Yet it's fine for these kids to be left to sink or swim and be made to look prats at times in the Maths/ Science lessons. But heaven forbid someone might be made to look a prat on the sports field. <_<
