Seriously, though, purists vs. pragmatists, is that the choice? Is this as big deal as it seems to me?

its already been introduced?!

The Emirates Gallastico - August 13, 2006 05:12 PM (GMT)
it could be introduced this year

i don't care tbh... i would prefer something like a chip in the ball so it beeps when it crosses the goal-line

Injury Time - August 14, 2006 11:42 AM (GMT)
so money for Sky from the FA then to run the cameras <_<

not sure why can't do it rugby style 4th official for majority of these and existing in goal cameras could be adjusted to show the line, there's not a huge amount of money in rugby yet manage to do this with minimum of fuss/delay to the games

Oi, geez, Cricket has it, Rugby Union has it, Rugby League has it, American Football has it and none of these games have become any worse since it's introduction so what makes football so damned precious about it?

I say no, there never has been and so many things could have been different had it been used so no

The Emirates Gallastico - August 15, 2006 07:03 AM (GMT)
Referee Graham Poll, who was sent home early from the World Cup after booking Croatia's Josip Simunic three times before sending him off, will take charge of Arsenal's first Premiership game at their new Emirates Stadium - against Aston Villa on Saturday. (Various)

Personally i think its a great idea. It will stop ridiculous situations like when David James got away with scooping the ball out of the net after it had gone 2-3 ft over the line!

All those sports are far more stop/start. My feeling is it may slow things down too much. But I guess it's like a lot of new things, once it's been there a while you get used to it and it's fine. It would help them get decisions right more, which is good.

I do think they should have more powers to charge players for elbows etc after a game - at the moment I think a player can be changed for an incident if the ref missed it at the time. If the ref sees it and gets it wrong then they can't do anything.

right the NFL is all about having a slow game (they're about to change that a little at the college level of the game)

You can have a coach call a timeout with 2:30 left in the second quarter and then 30 seconds later you HAVE to stop because of the 2 minute warning.....it's nothing but ads ads ads which is really frustrating
