Description: The News of the World article

The so-called sting on Sven is a load of rubbish from a self-righteous press. Sven is not an idiot and plans for the future. He would not be successful as a manager if he did not. So if he speculates what he will do after the world cup, this is perfectly normal and acceptable.

If he does lead England to victory at the world cup, it would be reasonable for him to look at the next thing he wants to achieve in his career. If he fails, it is possible that the FA would think about replacing him anyway and he would need to be prepared for that too.

I have no doubt that he is perfectly capable of concentrating on the England team as much as is required until the end of the world cup. He is entitled to speculate on other possibilities all of the time - anyone with any sense should always consider other possbilities - it does not mean disloyalty. No-one owns Sven, no-one should own anybody.

This is a non-story and is just to sell newspapers. If the News of the World really cared about what happens to the England team, they would not be printing material likely to destabilise the position.

Instead of implying that Sven is being disloyal, the News of the World should look at its own loyalty to the England team.

I think Sven is loyal to two things.

1.His penis, thats used on numerous occasions with many different partners, great role model eh kids.

2. Money, he gets around 4 million a year. Why I dont quite know. His job is not that hard and any idiot could pick the squad.

He is an isiot and hate the fella he has no passion and at times under his management we have been outclassed by very poor sides.

His excuses are pathetic and I for one think he should take lessons from Stuart Pearce on how to wear your heart on your sleave, but he cant because he aint English.....................dont even get me started on thats issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. :wanker:

Grumpy Old Gooner - January 15, 2006 03:29 PM (GMT)
Don't get me wrong - I do not think Sven was the right guy for manager. I just think that now is a bad time to do this NoW crap.

I agree about Pearce. The passion of the manager is important and he has it by the lorry-load. And I think he would have the respect of the players.

Further, Beckham should not be captain. He is excellent at delivering accurate and defence-wrecking passes from the right - probably no-one better - but when he puts the captain's armband on, he tries to do everyone else's job and gets in the way. (He also takes all the penalties which he is crap at - should give the job to Lampard, Gerrard or Scholes).

The England squad mostly picks itsself. Sven is praised for some of his selections even though its bleedin' obvious. If we all wrote down our choices for the England first-choice 11, I bet most of it would be identical. For instance, most lists would include Ashley Cole, John Terry, Wayne Rooney, Steve Gerrard and (dare I say it) Gary Neville as they are clearly the best at the moment at their respective positions. (GN is a complete cunt but he is also a very good right back.) Most of the rest would be the same-ish perhaps 2 choices for the other positions - you could select a team of good players easily enough - thats the point.

The other thing I regard as dead obvious is that Steve Gerrard should be the captain. He plays in the middle of the park and motivates those around him. I reckon he is the biggest reason by far that Liverpool were able to come back from 3 goals down to win the CL. That performance alone should have made Sven reconsider who is the captain.

I've seen some bizarre matches under Sven where the players don't know what they are supposed to be doing. This is ridiculous. Broadly speaking they all know their stuff and just need a quick instruction. For instance, if you are playing Lampard and Gerrard in midfield, just tell them that if one of them has the ball and is going forward, the other should cover. They know what to do after that. You use the players the way they play every week, that way there is no confusion. You don't have a year to mould the team so get real.

Which leaves motivation. Back to people like Pearce. I know he has less experience than some, but I reckon he can hack it. He has the respect of the players, he is not afraid to get on with it and he has done well with citeh even though his best player was nicked by Chelski. He demanded the job from the city board, demanded they judge him by results, took it by the scruff of the neck and kicked ass. What more do you want? He has been an England player so he is used to the crap he would get from the press - he would shrug it off and get on with things.

I'm sure his judgement is better than Svens too. SGE could have had Ulrika or that hideous tart he lives with. I know what I'd want to ... Anyway, best drop that part.

Sorry about the rant. Sometimes I get carried away. But I agree Sven is not the best choice!

im not sven biggest fan by a mile but why are the papers doing this so close to the world cup they should be getting behind the team and the gaffer no matter of there feelings towards him i see this as very conter productive in my eyes . On Stuart Pearce he is one of my heroes my choice as a future england manager wears his heart on his sleeve and is a English lion

Fats - January 15, 2006 07:05 PM (GMT)
OK

Well like I said the team picks itself anyway so no problem there if he goes.

As for Beckham, well no matter what people think of him he does fight for his country and I think he should be captain as he leads by example.

Oh Rocky Rocky - January 15, 2006 11:28 PM (GMT)
Sven should have gone ages ago in my opinion i don't think he has to wear his heart on his sleeve some mangers just don't do that (Wenger) however he never really shows that he does actually care, he wears the same expression all the time.
As has been mentioned the squad picks itself almost so thats not hard and i believe we have one of the top three if not two squads going to world cup and if we don't win it then Sven will be guilty of wasting the gretest pool of talenmtthis country has seen.
As for Beckham i think he comes in for some stick thats not always fair and i think he is a good captain.

Do you think it would be wise to sack him now given we are close to the World Cup ?

Fats - January 16, 2006 01:59 PM (GMT)
Yes mate.

It's given Arsenal a new lease of life signing new players and having a new England manager would do the same with the squad for the world cup.

I wish the F.A.had the balls to do it, however I think he has so much dirt on them they are running scared of him.

What other club manager could get away with what he has let alone a manager of a great national side like ours ?

Oh Rocky Rocky - January 16, 2006 02:30 PM (GMT)
No other manager could get away with it. The FA are so thick though the compensation they would have to pay him is horrific, sadly it seems he can hold them ransom and they just won't get rid of him.

HighburyHero - January 16, 2006 03:07 PM (GMT)
If Erikkson was English, he would have been sacked months and months ago.

There is no way that an English manager of the national team would get away with what Sven has since becoming England manager.

Flava Flav - January 16, 2006 04:28 PM (GMT)
What did he actually ever do in club management to make him this "brilliant" manager in the FA's eyes?

I remember watching some of his Lazio teams football and it was rubbish to be frank.

Seriously does anyone know what he has won???
