this site is slowly becoming more and more like the 606 of the past few months.

seeing as there are no wums on this board, please could you stop the 30 second rule (although it doesnt really affect me much)

also please all the smilies such as w@nkers :daffodil: to be allowed, there is no need to ban it

i think the swearing letter change is good, changing f-u-c-k to feck.

also, please take some notice of the old 606 and put a my discussion hyperlink at the top of the screen so there is no need to keep clicking my assistant

the image needs to be hosted say on www.imageshack.us this will give you a link, copy the link, then when posting a message click on IMG and then paste the link to your image in the box and press return et voila

I doubt it is becoming like 606, although some people have become a bit touchy recently. During the countdown to midnight thread, I posted that the deal would probably be completed tomorrow, so I left at midnight, and some touchy person berates me, and accuses me of being the type of fan who leaves ten minutes before the end of a game that is 1-1. :lol:

I did think his reaction was a bit OTT.

Someone told be this before but I have forgotton. Whats a WUM!? I have never been a member of 606 ever, only heard that a lot of fights and slanging matches broke out, I have to say I don't find that the case here on GW.

Oh yeah ... can we have that W@nker icon back? I don't think thats offencive as much as saying the word.

The 60 second rule is to stop spamming, the word filter is to stop foul and abusinve language, there are threads in hetre on how to put pics anywhere you so choose

You used a sledgehammer approach which is the way of 606. There is nothing wrong with occasional use of any words - it depends on context. If someone is being excessive, deal with them individually and stop doing the PE teacher approach and hitting everyone.

I think your general approach is often heavy handed and you should back off a bit.

I think the swear filter had gone a bit far so we removed a lot of the items from it. The worst language is still filtered but I think that's OK.

We have some younger members here, excessive swearing isn't allowed on Invision boards anyway and I honestly don't think it's too much to expect people to be able to express themselves without f'ing and blinding all the time.

Fair play, we changed it 98% of poepl either said nothing or said it was a good idea...............a few thought it wasnt. We made the decision and it was done. Why would we vote? This isnt a democracy you know............ ;)

does the swearing thing really matter? Even with the word filter, you still manage to get whatever you wanted to say across.

This country is bloody PC enough as it is.
What was extremely boring though (this is a few months back I think) was the endless stream of threads with naked women.
It doesn't offend me in the least btw - I just find it very, very boring after a while.

It also coincided with you lot asking where all the female posters had gone.

I would never use the "c" word as it offends 99.9% of the female population. I do think fck and wnk are pretty much what most people are used to these days.

I don't mind filtering but sorry, "frelling" and "feck" and whatever else is used as alternatives really don't have the impact. It reminds me of that ITC advert from a few years ago where the Sweeney get a gang of villains in a shed up at Heathrow, counting out the fivers when the handcuffs lock again and the evil heavy guy says: "ouch that really chafes". Classic. Why not just ask the poster to re-phrase?

Because then we would be forever sending PM's and editing posts.............seriously what does it matter??? If you cant expres yourself without swearing then there is nothing we can do about it

606 has a facility to ask you to re-phrase before it allows you to post. No PM's and no time wasted editing. As it is a word filter accessory, I am sure GW could offer it as well. That for me would be far better option than all the frelling, but if you can't, you can't.

Does it matter seriously? As I don't need to use expletives that often I won't get too hung up about it, but I would nonetheless prefer to use my own words than something chucked in that dramatically reduces the impact.

606 has been coughing up blood for months and has now finally been put out of our misery.

But in the old days, people loved it. And most people here used to be there. And you couldn't say half the words on 606 that we allow. We have put filters in for a few of the worst swearwords but you're far free-er to say things here than you ever could on 606 in its hey-day. I don't think we can implement the 606-style functionality where it asks you to rephrase your posts. Remember this is an Invision board and we can only use the functionality Invision provides. I've bolted on a couple of things like the menu and the ability to change colour, but we're limited in what we can do.

When the swear filter was first put in it did go a bit over the top, even quite mild swearing was filtered. But after a few people commented we changed it and now only a few of the most extreme words are changed.

I don't think it's such a big ask to expect people to express themselves without f'ing and blinding all the time. We do have some quite young posters on here.
