PIRES: ARSENAL MY PRIORITY
By Graeme Bailey - Created on 22 Oct 2005
Robert Pires insists remaining at Arsenal is his priority.
The French midfielder is out of contract next summer and is due to hold talks with The Gunners in January.
However, Arsenal have indicated that they will not alter cub policy for Pires - in that players over 31 will not be offered more than a one-year contract.
Pires, though, at 32 is looking for a two-year contract to remain in North London.
"If I have other approaches, I will think about them but for the moment my mind is with Arsenal," Pires stressed.
"If tomorrow I can obtain a very fine contract, in terms of both duration and salary, I will be the first to be delighted."
Pires also talked about the summer sale of friend Patrick Vieira and while he admits that the transfer 'hurt' Arsenal - everyone trusts Arsene Wenger's reasoning.
"Pat's sale has hurt us a lot," Pires told The Sun.
"We did expect he would be replaced by a player of the same standing and that has not been the case, but we have to respect the decision of the manager."
