Title: Reyes Wants Arsenal
Cripps - December 12, 2006 11:57 PM (GMT)
Click HereHopefully we do play them and beat them and Reyes sees we are the better team and comes back to where he belongs. Back to our left wing where he was brilliant last season and we can send Baps back.

He wasn't bad, but he was hardly brilliant..

give Baptista a chance, he could be a great player for us
Song Billongs Here - December 13, 2006 02:31 PM (GMT)
Would Reyes be allowed to play in that fixture though? Is he allowed to play against his parent club?

Actually that's a good point.
bloodandiron - December 13, 2006 02:56 PM (GMT)
Yeah, as he's technically still on loan?

Good to see fickle fans writing baps off after no more than a few games!
Jeeeez!
:banghead:
dazthegooner - December 13, 2006 03:18 PM (GMT)
Untill he's had a decent run of games I don't thing anyone can really pass judgement.
The Emirates Gallastico - December 13, 2006 03:59 PM (GMT)
Loan players are allowed to play against their parent club in the CL. Does no one remember Morientes knocking Real single-handedly out of the CL while on loan at Monaco?
Hope we do get Real and knock the bastards out.

i wish we keep baptista and keep reyes hahaha will never happen reyes will never come back to us but i can still hope...

Ridiculous isn't it :doh1:
From what I've seen so far from Baptista he's hungry and just wants games, be it at Arsenal or elsewhere he just wants to get on the field... But with respect to Baptista he needs to understand the dynamic at Arsenal, which seems to be that we're an experimental team and at the moment the emphasis is on the mental part...
I'm also a big Reyes fan, considering he was playing out of position for 80-90% of his Arsenal career his assist record is untouched and we're desperately missing that element this season...
Baptista will get his chance but if Reyes comes back I'd welcome him with open arms :scarf:

i don't want him.

When I first read that title I thought Reyes wanted to come back.
Then I clicked on the link - Oh, he just wants to play against us :coffee:

hopefully the famous (and experienced) five will be back by then and we can improve on an aggregate 1-0 win!
Gooner in Nipon - December 14, 2006 07:36 AM (GMT)
and he can have us too!
I too would like to see us play Real and as Cripps said remind reyes what he is missing but sorry Cripps mate, can't go along with wanting Reyes back as an Arsenal player! well the player yes! but not the pouting little cry baby who tried at every opportunity to worm his way out of the club! I don't miss having to hear the daily crap come out of the Spanish media and Real about how much Reyes is homesick etc and how much better he would be playing for Real!
and for fu*k sake everyone! give Baps a chance!, I know i wish that AW would!, the guy will produce, but he is adapting to a new league/country/language etc, its too early to think that Real got the better end of the deal, when all Reyes had to do was go back and play in his homeland! but I suppose that is too much to ask of some GWs!

Atletico Madrid striker Jose Antonio Reyes has proclaimed that he still has fond memories of playing for Arsenal.
Reyes came through the youth ranks of Sevilla and plied his trade with the first team for four years before making a £10.5 million move to the north London club. Following three years with the Gunners, the forward was loaned out to Real Madrid, but ended up joining their cross town rivals Atletico Madrid on a permanent transfer.
"I keep good memories of my spell with Arsenal, which is a club I'll always respect," Reyes is quoted by the News of the World as saying.
"Playing in [the Premier League] was an opportunity. But I was homesick and decided to move back to Spain.
He added: "Playing in England was a massive experience for me. Even if people don't think I made it here, I grew up as a human being and learnt a lot." |

Not really a failure imo
If he had stayed, he'd be awesome at the moment but homesickness happens

Yeah cos he's done really well since he left hasn't he, Benfica didn't even want him after going on loan there and now he's back at Athletico who barely play him as they don't want him.
He's not homesick now, he's just not as good as some thought.
Ach - October 26, 2009 08:41 AM (GMT)
Couldnt care less how hes done after hes left us although he did win Real the title.
For us, he was pretty good.
Maxzimus - October 26, 2009 08:46 AM (GMT)
He didn't win Real the title as such, he scored a some goals in one match at the end, he was hardly the guy that performed brilliantly all season like Ronaldo did for Man U.
The point is you said he would have been awesome for us had he stayed, well if you look at how he's done since he left I'd say he's not done very well. It's unlikely he'd have done any better for us.

yeah for a few matches. then he was shit, and finally behaved like an arse.
most of it was him but I think Wenger wasnt totally blameless. had he kept him on the wing I think he wouldve had a better time and certainly taken over from pires/ljungberg/whoever ended up filling in there before he was put out to pasture.
I think in wengers head he could only reconcile his pricetag with the idea that he would become a 30 goal a season CF. If he had accepted that he'd in fact overpaid (by his standards) for a half decent winger reyes would still be here and winning plaudits imho.
gunsofashburtongrove - November 1, 2009 05:52 AM (GMT)
To be fair he wasnt that bad for us. He was pretty good to start with and then the season following invincible season, he was like the best player in the world for the first 7 games. Then he ran into Chopper Neville and has been homesick since.
He's been poor after he left. A case of a player who could have been great losing it in his head
The Madness of King Jens - November 1, 2009 12:57 PM (GMT)
I think he's a good player. He could certainly come in and do a job for us if we re-sign him for a cut-price fee. Don't think it'll happen though.
Get Bendtner - November 1, 2009 01:15 PM (GMT)
I thought Reyes was a good player for us. It didn't work out because when he moved to this country, he realised he made a mistake. He could not adjust to life in this country and was homesick.
I cannot blame him for that.
CK's Korma - November 1, 2009 01:16 PM (GMT)
He got beat up by the Mancs and was never the same again.
Reyes for who he was and not what he became. :rose:
Syn - November 1, 2009 01:23 PM (GMT)
What MO said.
He was a technically gifted player but couldn't seem to stand getting kicked. We're not going to get protection from referees so it's upto the players to deal with it. Watch the number of times Arshavin got kicked and fouled yesterday but he just got on with it. Reyes isn't strong enough to do that. I don't blame him for being homesick but he did mess us around a lot towards the end of his career which would've put us in a bad position in negotiations.

Atletico de Madrid and former Arsenal attacker Jose Antonio Reyes believes that Cesc Fabregas will not leave the north London club anytime in the near future.
The midfield maestro has been linked with a move to Barcelona on many occasions, as Joan Laporta, the president of the club, has openly expressed his appreciation for the Gunners' captain.
"People talk about Cesc Fabregas as if his move back to Spain is imminent but I can’t see him leaving Arsenal now or in the foreseeable future," Reyes told The Sunday Mirror.
"He is in his element and captains a side with vast potential."
The 26-year-old then shed some light on his former side's trophy drought, opining that silverware is just around the corner.
"Of course people are disappointed that Arsenal have gone so long without winning a trophy," Reyes said.
"There is pressure building on them to deliver but I am convinced it will come to an end this season. They have a strong squad of players who gained valuable experience playing together over a number of years and you can see from their results that the patience Arsene Wenger has with them is finally about to pay off."
The Spaniard then looked back on last season, when there had been heavy speculation concerning the future of the Arsenal manager.
"I was surprised last season when some of the supporters grew impatient and turned on Wenger," he said.
"With the exception of Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, there is no better manager in the game.
"Wenger is smart, an exceptional coach who loathes losing and remains deeply ambitious. There is no real pressure on him other than that he puts on himself because the vast majority of Arsenal supporters and the club’s board worship him.
"He’s so unique in his thinking as well. No other club could assemble a young team like he has and unearth the talent he has brought to the club.
"Arsenal’s brand of football may have failed to land them trophies in recent seasons but that is about to come to end.
"I would be worried about them if I was Manchester United or Chelsea."
