I'm just suprised the thread has got this far without someone having claimed to have actually heard of him before / seen him play or tell us that he's a really good signing on Football Manager :coffee:

Well Liverpool were following him? We all know Rafa's record with young talent right? :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:

On a serious note...never heard of him...but I'm sure he has talent if Wenger likes him.

On a more curious note...what happens to the other 5 or 6 promising strikers we have at the club....a fire sale this summer per chance? :1run:

The Emirates Gallastico - January 31, 2007 12:53 PM (GMT)
He's only 15...

According to reports in an exclusive from eurosport.com, Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has come to terms with French second league team Chateauroux over the future of teenaged striker Gilles Sunu.

According to the French club's chairman, all terms have been agreed on, and a signing is only a few months away.

"Gilles Sunu will sign with Arsenal in February or March and he will leave next July – not before.

"Everything is alright. We have agreed with Arsenal to officially announce his signing in March."

The striker, who has been pursued since 2006, has chosen to develop at Arsenal instead of Liverpool, who was also attempting to lure the forward.

Sunu, only 15 of years of age now, will hold off on signing with the Gunners until his 16th birthday on the 20th of March.

Sunu's signing is very Wenger-esque, as the recruiting of young footballing talent from the French leagues is something boss Arsène Wenger is known for.

We wish Sunu the best of luck in his remaining stay in France, and we look forward to seeing what he has to offer on the pitch in England.

EXCLUSIVE! Chateauroux have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Arsenal over exciting youngster Gilles Sunu.

The Ligue 2 side have been in talks with the Gunners over a deal for the fledgling striker, who is not 16 until March.

Arsene Wenger has made a habit of snapping up the cream of France's young talent and he has also been keeping tabs on Strasbourg's Morgan Schneiderlin.

Sunu's move to The Emirates Stadium has been in the pipeline since last year but the formalities should be completed next month.

"We have agreed on everything," Chareauroux chairman Patrick Totignon told eurosport.com. "It is nearly signed.

"Gilles Sunu will sign with Arsenal in February or March.

"And he will leave next July - not before.

"Everything is alright. We have agreed with Arsenal to officially announce his signing in March."

The lively forward, who is the son of ex-Togo international Manu Sunu, was also courted by Liverpool.

Looks like a done deal. He sounds promising but does anyone know how good he really is??

Bignev - February 6, 2007 11:54 AM (GMT)
He's been likened to the "next Henry". Utterly ridiculous but with Wengers tutelage you never know.

We'll find out how good he is in 3 years or so.

Raider - February 6, 2007 08:36 PM (GMT)
According to the Express the Chavs were after him too but he chose us over all others once he met AW

Three years from now we may be singing his praises 1 (Maybe)

He is the next Thierry Henry according to the Mirror

ARSENE WENGER was last night told he has signed European football's best prospect - who could be the new Thierry Henry.

French prodigy Gilles Sunu will join Arsenal when he turns 16 next month from tiny Chateauroux, whose vice chairman Patrick Trotignon said: "He plays as an out-and-out striker like Thierry Henry, but he also can play in midfield.

"Gilles is lightning quick and he has great technical skills. But the key is that he is very intelligent, older than his years.

Talented up-and-comer Gilles Sunu, 18, joined Arsenal from Chateauroux in 2007 and on Wednesday revealed how he received words of wisdom from former club captain and Gunners legend Thierry Henry.

Sunu also spoke about Andrey Arshavin, Robin van Persie and dressing-room favourite Emmanuel Eboue, citing the trio as a source of good knowledge.

He told Arsenal TV Online, "The first time I came to the training ground I saw him and had a long conversation with him [Henry].

"He advised me to come here. I signed two hours after! He told me to work hard every day and give my best every day at training."

When pressed as to whom he would seek for advice among the current crop of Arsenal players, Sunu spoke of a trident all between 26 and 28-years-of-age.

"When we train with the first team I look a lot at Arshavin, he helps me a lot," he said.

"Van Persie as well and Eboue as well, he talks to me a lot."

If Eboue can make it here then anyone can.

They should make that into a sign and put it on the academy walls.

You dont know.. his reserve team performance doesnt say so.Like Henry, he has the pace, technique and power to be a good striker. I am sure Wenger has a place for Sunu.:coffee:
