Title: Itv Win Fa Cup Rights
Description: well nearly...

Redgooner - March 30, 2007 07:32 AM (GMT)
Wish i could put this in a section where people might read it as I think it's a travesty for the FA cup

From The Sun:
QUOTE
ITV look set to win the TV rights battle for England matches and FA Cup ties.

They are poised to seal a record-breaking £435million deal after putting together a joint bid with satellite station Setanta.

The next round of rights take in games following the Euro 2008 finals until 2012.

ITV’s move will come as a major blow for the BBC and Sky.

I hate ITV's football coverage - I mean for the CL matches, what was that podium Robbie Earl was standing behind pitchside for? They just looked like knobs.

Also does that mean we have to buy in to Setanta too now? More bloody money the fans have to shell out :censored:

(The boatrace has not been the same since ITV had it either I'd just like to add!)

Letters (TPFKA WWTL@WHL) - March 30, 2007 07:37 AM (GMT)
Wait....does that mean the FA Cup Final would ONLY be on ITV, and not on Sky?!

Bloody hell...their coverage is just terrible.

When it was on both BBC and ITV I'd always watch BBC but these days (when I'm not there!) I'd generally opt for Sky.

Also do the 'new' football packages start next season? As in, if I want to see all the football matches that are aired on TV I need to buy Sentanta?

How much are they going to rip me off for that?

Letters (TPFKA WWTL@WHL) - March 30, 2007 07:43 AM (GMT)
Can you even get Sentanta through normal Sky?
I thought it was some foreign channel you need another dish for, but I don't know much about it. Maybe you can just subscribe.

Don't think I would though.

It's available through Sky - just passed the Eurosport channels I think.

They show Scottish and (I think!) French football. It will depend how much it is tbh - I always buy a prem plus season ticket, so if it's not much more than that's ok.

Letters (TPFKA WWTL@WHL) - March 30, 2007 07:58 AM (GMT)
I don't actually watch many neutral games so I don't bother with PremPlus.
I buy the odd away Arsenal game though.
I wouldn't subscribe to a new channel just for a few games a season.

Really? I'm terrible, I watch loads of matches on TV.
Sunday is my day of 'rest', in which I usually watch all the matches that are on (including the Spanish games if there is nothing else on) - I really enjoy being the neutral!

Grimandi's Perm - March 30, 2007 08:03 AM (GMT)
I think if you subscribe to Setanta, it comes as part of a package that includes (among others) Rangers TV and Celtic TV. But what kind of household wants BOTH of those channels??

*CeSc MacHINE* - March 30, 2007 09:13 AM (GMT)
pathetic news!!!
f.a went for the money....beebs is the best

The Merse - March 30, 2007 09:15 AM (GMT)
As I've said on the other thread in General Chat (thanks, Red, for turning my attention to this one), ITV will always get the crappy ties from each of the FA Cup rounds.

Couple to that the god-awful commentary.

Oh, it looks bleak :(

Does anybody know about the Premiership deal? I know Sky still have the majority of matches, but aren't there a handful being broadcast exclusively on Setanta from next season?

Your boat is fine - doesn't need a lot of makeup.

No worries Merse,

I want to know about the PL matches as well - I think the Monday night football package (so not really the best matches) is the one that Setanta won. I think it's £5 month extra at the moment, but I'm hoping they will do some kind of deal for it for next season surely as it's in Sky interest?

Coney - March 30, 2007 10:06 AM (GMT)
At least we don't have to listen to that twat Motson. :banghead:

Coney loves Robbie Earl's podium ;)

Not happy with this deal, it means having to pay yet more cash to get a subscription to Setanta and having to put up with ITV , their endless commercial breaks, Steve Ryder looking as wooden as ever and David bloody Pleat! :sulk:

Where's My Username Gone? - March 30, 2007 06:02 PM (GMT)
Does that mean those twats sky don't have the FA Cup?

If so, :woohoo:  :partytime:

McNamara That Ghost... - March 30, 2007 07:18 PM (GMT)
Be interesting to see who defects from the BBC now there is no live football to preside over after this season...

Gabby Logan must be gutted that she moved to the Beeb now.

A big blow for the BBC though, they've lost their exclusive radio rights for the Prem as well , so from next season they'll be sharing the live Prem commentary with Talksport.

McNamara That Ghost... - March 30, 2007 07:56 PM (GMT)
Well, this is what happens when you invest all your money in absurd reality shows and try going alone...

;)

King-Thierry - March 30, 2007 09:51 PM (GMT)
I cant stand some of the bbc's pundits such as Hansen but ITV is a million times worse

They have the same person(Jim Rosendale) who is a complete twat hosting every sport show

F1
boxing
Football
etc

Mr Brighterside - March 31, 2007 07:55 AM (GMT)
the itv coverage is the worst football coverage there is, bar none - Channel 5 do it better!

the indie has an allegation on the issue:

http://news.independent.co.uk/media/article2407996.ece

if this is true it is a disgrace, why should we have to put up with ammateur coverage just to ensure censorship of opinion on our dismal performances? :fury:

guess I might have to go to a few more arsenal fa cup games next season, maybe both of them :1run:

Exactly what I said to the callcentre when they upped my NASN fee when they decided to include it in the Setanta sport pack.

Having said that, Setanta is FAR better than Sky. I'm dropping Sky Sports next season.
