Title: Arsenal Anthem
Description: Our Song

chunkyandy - August 16, 2007 07:54 AM (GMT)
I am sure i am not the first to mention this, but we need an Arenal Anthem. We all know about the scousers never walking alone, west ham and there bubbles etc etc.
in the 70's we had good old Arsenal (never a favourite of mine to be honest)....watching the wigan game last night they had ''you are my sunshine'' which would have got my vote as an Arsenal Anthem. I think the atmosphere at the emirates is getting better and would like a song played over the tannoy as the players come out, after a goal, and at end of match, that is OUR song.
I am new to the site but can we get ideas, debates, votes etc and get this sorted.
we need our own identity...hope most agree with me but if you think i am talking bo**o*s please tell me.
Thanks for taking the time to read this

Welcome.

There´s no point trying to start an anthem it has to happen naturally.

The song of the Royal Navy.

Hearts of Oaks

Come, cheer up my lads! `tis to glory we steer,
To add something more to this wonderful year;
To honour we call you, not press you like slaves ,
For who are so free as the sons of the waves.

Hearts of Oak are our ships, Hearts of Oak are our men;
We always are ready;steady, boys, steady
We`ll fight and we`ll conquer again and again.

Keep it as it is, albeit very nautical, or change it a bit. We did it with Rule Britannia.

As football fans are simple folk, football songs and chants have got to be kept simple and reparative. I’ve had a stab, maybe somebody else can take up the challenge

Arsenal in our hearts.

Come, sing up my lads it’s for Arsenal we cheer .
To add something more to these Wenger-ful years
To honour we call, not press you like slaves ,
For who are so free as the sons of the guns

Arsenal in our hearts, Arsenal in our hearts.
We always are ready; ready, boys, ready.
We’ll fight and we’ll win yet again and again.

That's great. I mean it: that's really really good. It's noble and tradition-laden, just like the club; and it bespeaks a determination and even, by extension, an independence, which lie at the center of the Arsenal's accomplishments.

Only thing to change is that it needs to keep the rhyme in the last two lines of the first stanza.

How about ...

To honour we call, with titles we've won,
For who are so free as the sons of the guns

Or, the version for the present squad:
To honour we call, no matter you're young,
For who are so free as the sons of the guns

Or, the version for Arsenal messageboards:
To honour we call, not press you like wums,
For who are so free as the sons of the guns

(btw, "the sons of the guns" is brilliant )

I heard something just before the game yesterday which a few people were singing along to and I was wandering if that was an attempt at an anthem?

Kevin the Gooner - September 26, 2007 05:02 PM (GMT)
"To honour we call, with titles we've won," :music:

I like it.

Thinking back to 'Good Old Arsenal' (Rule Britannia).
I was trying to work this in.

Who are so proud, as those proud to say that name.

or

Who plays so free, as the sons of the guns.
