Title: Dida's ban, Fair or unjust ?

Dida got a two game ban for effectively feigning injury. Now forget the emotion of it, he dived basically, pretended he was hurt and got substituted by his team, that would not have really given them an advantage. So all in all he's done something, albeit more visable, that players do every single week. Have Ueffa, by banning him for unsporting behaviour, opened a can of worms ? Surely now they are require to investigate, and ban players that blatantly dive and cheat in order to gain an advantage.

can of worms? exactly that.

they will have to have a panel that sits and decides on any diving or play of that ilk for the rest of the Champions League and UEFA cup, its the precedent.

what makes this worse is that i don't think UEFA would have come up with this decision if Dida wasn't humiliated in the European press and replays of the pathetic dive wasn't constantly shown, they've gone for the popular vote - although its the correct punishment.

I'm not sure about more visible - more risible, perhaps. But if the cans of worms it opens means that there is pressure to give more retrospective red and yellow cards for play-acting, diving and the like, then I for one will regard this as a good thing - about bloody time. For instance, Rooney would have had a couple of games out after his flagrant dive to get the penalty at the end of the 49-match series. Ronaldo and RvN would never play again. ;)

Eboue would have a life ban! :yikes:

The dive is not really the issue, its the feigning injury which has got him his wrists slapped. I seem to remember Lee Dixon getting a ban after feigning injury against Lens at Wembley..

It's fair but only if UEFA back themselves up by doing this when it matters. They have made a rod for their own back, I just hope they don't break...

Thats exactly the point. For me they've set a prescedent.
