Title: Englishmen : If you had to chose one would it be
Description: Hamilton or England Rugby Team
Elchegooner - October 18, 2007 01:04 PM (GMT)
For us Englishmen this weekend will be one of nerves, stress, emotion, passion and finger nail bitting.
We have two events of great significance to anticipate.
Our Lewis fighting against the Prima Donna Cabr=n that is Alonso and the Ice cube that is Raikonen to become Formula 1 World Champion.
And
Our Rugby heroes attempt to become the first team to retain the Webb Ellis Trophy something even the All Blacks havenīt done..
Of course winning both would go down in history as a truely great weekend of sport for our country. Also losing both would be a disaster.
Normally in these situations youīll win one and lose one.
Two questions:
1. What do you think will happen?
2. Who would you prefer to win, if you had to sacrifice the other?
I tell you my preference a bit later.
PGFC - October 18, 2007 01:34 PM (GMT)
1) Lewis will win, England will lose.
2) I would prefer England to win tbh, I think Lewis is probably the most gifted driver in F1 at the moment and in the right car will be unstoppable in the future but this season, however unfairly, the F1 title would be a poisoned chalice for Lewis with the Ferrari/McLaren spying debacle and he'd probably do well to thrash
his feckless team-mate and Ferrari for the whole race on Sunday then park his car just before the finishing line and walk away ready to start afresh in 2008.
I want England to win against SA so bad it hurts.
BoarderDave - October 18, 2007 01:47 PM (GMT)
I think hamilton will win and england will crash and burn. I just dont think we are good enough to beat the springboks.
In an ideal world we will win both but if i had to choose i'd pick the F1 as i dont really like rugby anyway!
Ollie the Optimist - October 18, 2007 01:51 PM (GMT)
if we win both, it poses another problem. who gets sports personaility of the year? i think it should be lewis, but if Jonny kicks a goal to win it, you can put your house on it that he will win it
Coca Kolo - October 18, 2007 02:47 PM (GMT)
I think Lewis will win and England will lose, but if i had to pick then it would be the other way round.
Elchegooner - October 18, 2007 03:11 PM (GMT)
I have to say I feel a bit sorry for Lewis. The Spygate scandal and the bad press have tainted his achievements which are truely exceptional even now without him winning.
My head tells me Lewis will win and England will lose.
But if my life depended on it. I want England to win. Lewis has many years ahead to ram the racing car down the throats of all.
It will come along once in our lifetime for a team to retain the Rugby World Cup and we are such underdogs. We have been since the group stages.
But can you imagine the emotions if we won.
If it happens that Lewis winīs Iīll jump for joy and watch the face of that crying little prima that is Fernando and laugh.
XsNrG - October 18, 2007 06:47 PM (GMT)
Both will cock it up - this is the English disease. The best underdogs, but the biggest bottlers when the weight of expectation is upon us.
To be fair, I think the English Rugger team may just pull it off, as SA are probably nailed on favourites to win.
McNamara That Ghost... - October 18, 2007 07:05 PM (GMT)
1) a) Alonso will steal it from him. b) South Africa will tonk us unfortunately.
2) England to win.

bergstar - October 18, 2007 08:48 PM (GMT)
Hamilton will blow it and we'll get beaten by the springboks.
Mr Brighterside - October 18, 2007 09:39 PM (GMT)
I expect SA to win and hope hamilton will (but am unsure)
I would prefer hamilton to win as I fear our success in the world cup will see us drop the ball and ignore the problems that have left us in the wilderness since 2003 - that and Hamilton has overcome a lot of adversity and is competing against some very very underhand players.
South Africa are amazing, fair enough.
King-Thierry - October 18, 2007 11:34 PM (GMT)
Bryan Habana would probably beat both
on a serious note, id want England to win the RWC just a tad more than i would Lewis winning the F1 championship
Cripps - October 19, 2007 01:22 PM (GMT)
1 - Hamilton and SA to win
2 - England

I believe i said something similar and was widely critisised for it.
What i said

| Like it or not, Hamiltions championship should he win which he should will be tarnished by the going ons at McLaren whether he knew anything of it or not and he wont be seen a proper world champion |
Your reply to that

Complete and utter rubbish,
There will be a small minority that think your way. The rest will sit back and admire.
End of story.

So tell me, ELche. WHat has made you change your mind?

Lot of people said it but I think Hamilton will do it and England won't.
Would prefer it the other way around.
Not a big fan of Rugby or F1 really but Hamilton is young and there will be other seasons for him. This is a once in a lifetime thing for England, the chance to retain the trophy. Might not get another chance.
Grimandi's Perm - October 19, 2007 06:25 PM (GMT)
Lewis to win
England to thrash the 'Boks.

Ummm youīve started to misinterpret again.
I donīt believe he is tainted.
I do know that certain quarters are tainting it for him.
Therefore my comments relate to the fact that people like you and the odd pundits/ press are doing it. Not my belief of the belief of the majority.
But fortunately this is not the norm.
Your quote says he wonīt be a proper World Champion, mine says the complete opposite.
So no change of mind from me.
Lewis is an exceptional talent...whatever happens tomorrow and he is English.
Iīm actually starting to hope he leads the race and as hes about to cross the Checkered Flag...then stops gets out of his car and sticks two fingers up to everyone that doesnīt like him. Then starts preparing for next year.
Cripps - October 20, 2007 12:17 PM (GMT)
Its more Mclaren i dont like than Hamilton.
I dont believe either of their drivers should win the championship.
So come on Kimi

I can understand the dislike of McClaren. Obviously they have had a nightmare year and have made childlike errors.
For example yesterday. Itīs quite pathetic I agree.
But all Lewis does is get in the car and drive. I feel sorry for him always fighting against his teams mistakes.
But out on the track , heīs won some wonderful races and itīs his first season.
I think Kimi will win the race tommorrow but whether thats enought to stop either Hamilton or Alonso . I donīt know.
