england beat aussies/france
england beat sri lanka in cricket
hamilton was still top of the rankings with 2 races left/1 race left
euro qualification was in our own hands

Losing finalists is no shame. Sure - nicer to win but getting to a final is a sign you are able to do something right.

Football. Crap management. As usual it will be blamed on overpayed players, too many foreigners, crap refs - well basically, anything except the FA appointing crap managers who are not bold enough at the outset and box themselves into a corner.

well the thing with Lewis, and the england rugby and cricket teams is that they care that they are playing for their country and thats why they put up such a fight. the english football team just treat it as a joke, there is no passion or pride and thats what the difference is between the sports and why england are (sometimes) succesful in rugby and cricket. lewis drove with passion and tried his best to win etc
