Hmmm, would be good for us but with a week and a bit to go, I'll take it with a pinch of salt for the time being.

Didier Drogba reportedly requires a knee operation that is set to rule him out of action for at least a month.
According to The Times, 'The Ivory Coast striker had a scan yesterday that revealed degeneration in his left meniscus, which requires surgery'.
However, with Drogba due to leave Stamford Bridge next month for the African Nations Cup, it remains to be seen whether Chelski will opt to place their striker under the knife immediately or ask him to struggle on during the critical Christmas period.
'Chelsea's medical staff will speak to the player and examine his performance in training today before advising Avram Grant, the first-team coach, of the best course of action, although if Drogba is deemed not fit enough to face Sunderland on Saturday they are likely to recommend an operation as soon as possible,' reports the newspaper.
The situation is further complicated by Drogba's understandable reluctance to risk his long-term health as well as his desire to represent his country.
An operation would rule the Ivorian out of action for a minimum of five weeks, meaning it is distinctly conceivable that Drogba will not play again for Chelski until February. |

Oh ok maybe I won't then.
anfield 1989 - December 6, 2007 10:02 AM (GMT)
It will probably all depend if he plays this weekend.
ITs CHRISTMAS - December 6, 2007 10:02 AM (GMT)
is Diaby fit enough to give his knee a "proper test"? :ninja: then he can rest for another 3 matches ;)

Maccy I said a month back that there would be a reason for them to pull him out ACON. He'll miss the tournament and be playing for Chelsea by end of Jan

Knowing Chelsea they will give him a injection and tell him to 'get on with it lad'.

Aye you did but the fact is, seemingly, they will lose him one way or another.

i suppose the difference is he comes back rested and ready for action rather than shagged out with playing/travelling and the possibility of picking up a knock, which is surely a preferred option for the Chavs

Miraculous recovery he'll have for sure.
Jens' Jolly Red Face - December 6, 2007 12:22 PM (GMT)
No Drogba, no Essien ... still no Cech?
They'll be without their three best players against us. :good:
Nayan's Photo Casebook - December 6, 2007 03:07 PM (GMT)
if cesc, hleb and flamini are out that more than evens it up!
Gunnersclaus - December 6, 2007 03:08 PM (GMT)
St. Nicklas - December 6, 2007 03:22 PM (GMT)
If we're ever going to beat Chelsea, this is the game.
anfield 1989 - December 6, 2007 03:29 PM (GMT)
It all depends if Chelsea decide to make him take the operation now. If he misses the Sunderland game we will know. if he plays this weekend he will play against us.
I think they will make him play aginst us then make him take it a week later (after Liverpool game). He is too important for those games. Pity our game wasn't later in month as I think they wouldn't have waited. Alas our games is just over a week away only.

Drogba and Essien out? Not such a bad time to play them then. Especially if Cesc is back.
Coca Kolo - December 7, 2007 03:51 PM (GMT)
with Essien and Drogba out (most likely) we'll be playing a Chelsea team far from their best 11.
hopefully we'll have our best 11 out.
pk_gunner - December 7, 2007 10:07 PM (GMT)
I really want them back.
Ive forgotten what it felt like to see RVP, Cesc, Flamini and Hleb play together.
Warning__ - December 8, 2007 03:39 AM (GMT)
Same here.
Cesc HAS to be back, man. It's just been too long.
Warning__ - December 8, 2007 03:42 AM (GMT)
btw, Cech will be back for this game.
tigertheelf - December 8, 2007 11:03 AM (GMT)
Hopefully we can beat Chelsea for the first time since 2004
The Christmas Merse - December 8, 2007 11:27 AM (GMT)
I think that'll be the day Liverpool and Chelsea officially throw themselves back into the title race.
Liverpool'll beat the Scum and we'll lose to Chelsea.
Not wanting to end this on a bleak note, just a reminder as to who we've got after that- Spurs at home. We'll be back on track before you know it!
dittohead - December 8, 2007 02:34 PM (GMT)
drogba out for a month apparently :spinnana:

08.12.2007 Chelsea Football Club can announce that Didier Drogba today underwent an operation on his injured knee. |

St. Nicklas - December 8, 2007 02:50 PM (GMT)
Expect him to still play against us

Santa's Sleigh Bells Zim - December 8, 2007 03:33 PM (GMT)
Notice how it says he'll miss Saturday's clash against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge and Tuesday's game with Valencia in the Champions League but then goes on to say they haven't specified how much more he'll miss....hmmmmm
Link
St. Nicklas - December 8, 2007 03:45 PM (GMT)
Told you.
He'll play. Chelsea are embarrassingly desperate.
Santa That Elf Just Isn't... - December 8, 2007 04:14 PM (GMT)
I'd be absolutely amazed if surgery on the knee meant a player could be back in a week.
St. Nicklas - December 8, 2007 04:16 PM (GMT)
If Drogba had open heart surgery a week before this match they'd still force him to play.
Santa That Elf Just Isn't... - December 8, 2007 04:27 PM (GMT)
At least he could use his feet...
Lanchristmassy Gunner - December 8, 2007 07:24 PM (GMT)
At least one of our key players out injured will probably return and tbh I wouldn't be surprised if Drogba played throught the pain barrier. He's far more important to them than any one of our players is to us
Where the Czech is Santa? - December 8, 2007 07:44 PM (GMT)
If there is any chance they will try and get him to take a pain killing injection. He might not like it but theyw ill try
tensions may increase and chelsea vs drogba will re-surface
he is to them the same importance as kolo when they both go
if hleb cesc and flamini and rvp are back then we can win - if not id take a draw if manure draw at anfield
Gunnersclaus - December 8, 2007 07:55 PM (GMT)
I think we'll lose, and Liverpool will beat United as well.
Oh the title race is on baby.
Coca Kolo - December 8, 2007 10:10 PM (GMT)
we'll win and the Liver-Utd game will be a 0-0 draw.
Santa That Elf Just Isn't... - December 8, 2007 10:12 PM (GMT)
I think Man Utd will win.
Coca Kolo - December 8, 2007 10:14 PM (GMT)
Yeah thats what i think too.
But hopefully a Stevie G inspired Liverpool can get the first goal and defend for their lives before Rooney scores. <_<
tigertheelf - December 9, 2007 10:35 AM (GMT)
Will Robin van Persie be back for this game?
