Title: Carling Cup - future

OK so it's good for blooding the young guns but I do wonder if it would be better if this competition was restricted to non-Premiership clubs, (or possibly only the Premiership teams that have failed to qualify for European competitions). It would then give the Sunderlands, Wolves and even Spuds of this world a chance to actually win something. Thoughts?

Its fine as it is

Gives our kids games

If it aint broke, dont fix it.

If the lesser clubs want to win it then they just have to try harder

That would devalue it even more when you think about it.

Keep it the way it is as it gives our 2nd team a chance to play against better quality than they would playing aginst reserve opposition.

If you did that, you might as well rename it 'The Losers Cup'. I don't think anyone would actually want to win it. Except Jose Moronio.

You think a cup which none of the top sides really bother with any more 'aint broke'?

It has very little Kudos. I think exempting sides who are in Europe from it would be a good call. It would give sides a bit further down the tree something to shoot for and give them a realistic chance of silverware. In a strange way it would actually raise its profile because the sides who are in it would value it more highly.

None of the top sides bother with?

Wenger has said he sees the Carling Cup as a route for the kids to get games and experience

Last 3 cup winners have been members of the top 4

Yeah, it's used as a plaything for the top clubs who are so much better than everyone these days they can get to the final without even playing their strongest side.

Yet another competition monopolised by a few rich clubs. Brilliant.
