If they're speaking solely about football, then it has to be the country to whom their own association represents.

Hmmm they did a footie census in 2003 and found that if you include scots, Irish, Wlesh ect as foriegners there were actually LESS foriegners in Englands top league in 2003 than in 1983. :good:

think they make the difference because of a desire to emphasise being a British Subject rather than one of the member nations - all this because of nationalist aspirations in said countries
I don't think we have any scots, welsh, Irish in our youth development programme (which is the only place we have any Brits)

We have an Irish keeper called James Shea in the youth team...he's apparently not very good though...:lol:

when was the last time a keeper from a top club's academy was any good?
must have been ages ago!
there is the minor issue that keepers rarely play at good clubs until they are 23 or more - which causes problems for very young keepers trying to get in
