Title: England squad for France friendly
Gooner4Life84 - March 20, 2008 12:51 PM (GMT)
Provisional 30-man squad:
James (Portsmouth), Carson (Aston Villa), Kirkland (Wigan);
Bridge (Chelsea), A Cole (Chelsea), Johnson (Portsmouth), Terry (Chelsea), Brown (Man Utd), Lescott (Everton), Ferdinand (Man Utd), Wheater (Middlesbrough), Woodgate (Tottenham), Upson (West Ham);
Barry (Aston Villa), Young (Aston Villa), Bentley (Blackburn), J Cole (Chelsea), Lampard (Chelsea), Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Beckham (Los Angeles Galaxy), Gerrard (Liverpool), Hargreaves (Man Utd), Downing (Middlesbrough), Jenas (Tottenham);
Walcott (Arsenal), Agbonlahor (Aston Villa), Crouch (Liverpool), Rooney (Man Utd), Owen (Newcastle), Defoe (Portsmouth)
Beckham being recalled is no surprise. David Wheater is the only surprise name in that squad for me. Though his form for Boro has been very good this season.

The ones highlighted should be nowhere near the squad
Coca Kolo - March 21, 2008 01:38 AM (GMT)
ones that shouldn't be in the squad;
Bridge.
A.Cole.
But we have no other Left Backs, Baines has been in and out at Everton and Warnock I don't personally think is up to International standard, although this has yet to be tested.
Wheater.
He's done well for Boro but should learn his trade at the U'21's for some time yet.
Downing.
Woefully inconsistent, but England have no left footers..
Beckham.
:haha:
Crouch.
Can't even get on the Liverpool subs bench.
Walcott.
Not ready, and should be in the U'21's.
Owen.
No way. Been off-form for just about the whole season, and now that we have a Manager who has bollocks not pick the big names in the 1st 11, I wonder if Owen is feeling the heat and thinking about a move from Newcastle to enhance his stop start career..

Beckhams fit and playing well
Any reason why he shouldnt be in other than you dont like him and as important as you are, tis not a good enough reason to drop arguably Englands best player for the last 12 years
Coca Kolo - March 21, 2008 01:45 AM (GMT)
playing well?
:sarcy:
erm...he's been playing pre-season games agaisnt tripe such as Syndey FC.
Cripps - March 21, 2008 01:57 AM (GMT)
And?
We're talking about Beckham here, not who he plays against
Coca Kolo - March 21, 2008 01:59 AM (GMT)
If you can't see the point I'm making then I suggest you have your Beckham tinted glasses on.
Cripps - March 21, 2008 02:04 AM (GMT)
I get what youre saying in that playing against crap teams make him look good.
I respectfully disagree.
Coca Kolo - March 21, 2008 02:08 AM (GMT)
I challenge you to a duel.
:handbags:

I think what CK is saying (and also what I think you know what he is saying Cripps) that being selected on the basis of a few pre-season friendlies seems like kowtowing to the public demand I feel. Something that I thought Capello was above but seemingly not over here. :rolleyes:
Although this is only the provisional squad and Beckham could be one of those to miss out however I doubt it.

Exactly the point. Capello has to treat these friendlies as seriously as possible because he has nothing else to go on for months and months, seems utterly pointless to me including Beckham instead of another player that could be trying to make a name for themselves ahead of the World Cup qualifying when Beckham obviously won't be in the squad by then.
Beckham can't possibly be in this squad on merit and that really, really annoys me.

Sagna will probably be out for the season.
Back on the England squad, what has Ashley Young done wrong to be axed in this squad ? Picked him last time, gave him a few minutes, now dispenses with him. I cannot see that logic at all. It sorts of makes you wonder why he picked him in the first place
Da Silva Lining - March 24, 2008 01:43 PM (GMT)
Henry and Benzema have both pulled out of the France squad, was looking forward to seeing the latter play but oh well.
Cripps - March 24, 2008 01:53 PM (GMT)
Kaka pulls out of the Brazil squad <_<
Was hoping to see him play
