yep ss2 at 12:45

Thicknthin - April 3, 2008 02:11 PM (GMT)
Geez, has a game ever attracted so little interest by a Thursday as this one????????

I hope we rest Cesc, Flams and Hleb-maybe Ade too and give Song and Giblets a go in CM with Denilson and Eboue wide and Bendy and Theo up top. Ring the changes after 60/65. I'd even be happy to see Barazite given a go up top with Bendy!

The dippers will play Crouch, Pennant, Lucas, Alonso, Babel and probably Vorinin or Benayoun in the "hole" plus the usual back 4 resting Torres, Gerrard and Kunt.

LuvMeGooners - April 3, 2008 02:50 PM (GMT)
I don't think resting any players is a good idea personally. I can see the rational, but going in half-hearted like against Man Utd in the cup may be catastrophic.

Full strength. 3 points. I want real pressure put on Utd & Chelsea.

I just think there's no way Flams, Cesc and Hleb can go full pelt in two more games against Poo and then the Mancs in a week. Benitez will definitely make the changes above so pick a team with a bit more height, some causes to prove (Song) and a plan to go for the win in the last twenty. I definitely think Song and Denilson should feature to start. The United game featured Cesc and Flams, the defeat really came from a lack of commitment and a pair of useless full backs. He has to take some risks IMO.

Alias - April 3, 2008 03:02 PM (GMT)
hmmm this will be tough to predict,.... actually it won't. 1-1.

dont agree with u... i say we play our best team.. i know we r with a far shout in winning the EPL but then i wudnt want us to depend on CL alone... atleast lets keep the pressure up on man utd and chelsea... i know it requires a lot of work but then they r paid to play... its the last few weeks of the season and i think the supporters deserve a show similar to the one in bolton..

Adebayor is doubtful and RVP is injured for this game. FFS.

So Bendtner as a lone striker on saturday.

  You have to laugh!

The Merse - April 3, 2008 07:21 PM (GMT)
If, out of the two home games we have against Liverpool, I was to choose a win and a draw, I'd have definitely hoped for the Premiership game to be a win!

Keeps us in contention for both competitions.

I just hope a 3-0 demolition of Liverpool (which is my prediction for Saturday) doesn't inspire the Scousers to a revenge job on Tuesday (3-0 to the home side in that game too, methinks :( )

It's Up For Grabs Now - April 3, 2008 07:35 PM (GMT)
Full strength, get the three points to give us some momentum going into Tuesday, cos were still fighting for this title and they've gotta go to Middlesbrough and get something and il tell you something, i'll love it if we beat them, love it!

Diaby is suspended. The squad is paper thin at the moment, however a couple of the players need a rest
1-1

Lawro predicts a win for us

SATURDAY

Arsenal v LiverpoolKick-off 1245 BST

How many times does this happen, that teams end up playing each other in the league days after a Cup tie - in this instance after their Champions league quarter-final?

It will be interesting to see how Liverpool line up as they do still need to secure fourth pace in the Premier League, while staying fresh for their quarter-final second leg against Arsenal on Tuesday.

I do not expect the game to be vastly different from Wednesday's 1-1 draw. I fully expect Liverpool to sit back but I have a feeling the Gunners will win this one.

Match preview
Verdict: 2-1

Marc Overmars - April 4, 2008 01:22 PM (GMT)
SSN reckon the fat controller will rest gerrard, torres and carragher.

i think we'll win, and win well to boot.

i just hope we don't adopt liverpool's carefree attitude when CL ties are around the corner, if we do we'll probably draw, and end any faint title hopes.

Grimandi's Perm - April 4, 2008 01:39 PM (GMT)
There are no title hopes left, but I want a win just for the momentum it would give us.

Marc Overmars - April 4, 2008 01:42 PM (GMT)
win in the san siro

then draw at wigan

not holding my breath about any momentum

Against the same side though, a win would be a huge boost.

Marc Overmars - April 4, 2008 01:48 PM (GMT)
im not so sure, they adopt a totally different attitude to CL matches. we could win this 3-0 and still probably go down without a whimper on tuesday imo.

I don't think they do. I think that's a myth.

:good: Liverpool will play to win on Saturday. Everton, bragging rights and a psychological advantage for the Tuesday game.

They will lose, though.

Professor Zim - April 4, 2008 06:30 PM (GMT)
I hope we rest some players, the title is gone and we need to focus on the CL. Liverpool will be resting players and we need a big performance next week if we're to have any chance of a trophy this season.

Yes it is, maybe not mathematically but realistically it is, Man U won't drop the 7 points we need them to. Even if they did we'd have to win all of our matches....which on current form looks unlikely.

The CL game 2ng leg is our season now.

Cripps - April 4, 2008 06:42 PM (GMT)
And if we and Chavs both beat Mancs which can happen, we are level on points.

Its nowhere near over

They have a far superior goal difference so they'll still lead. Besides it won't happen, IMO we've blown it, Man U are playing like Champions and may well even beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

They are the team in form and this is usually the team that wins the title at this stage of the season.

Cripps - April 4, 2008 06:45 PM (GMT)
But according to you, they've been playing like champs all season and have still lost more than we have.

Whos to say they wont do so again?

Nowhere near over

Professor Zim - April 4, 2008 06:51 PM (GMT)
They also won many more and scored a hatful of goals and aren't conceding left right an centre. I think you have to be realistic, we've been found out. I always felt our form was patchy since October so I'm not surprised we're not going to win it. We're conceding goals left right and centre, have struggled to score and lack match winners and look tired to boot.

Maybe AW will learn a valuable lesson and actually sign some quality players we need to have a chance of winning the title.

Cripps - April 4, 2008 06:54 PM (GMT)
Since October?

And yet we were top for the majority of that time.

We might not win the league, we certainly arent favourites but anyone can see its not over yet and to sacrifice our title hopes for a cup competition is foolish.

Professor Zim - April 4, 2008 07:03 PM (GMT)
Yes since October we've been very patchy, I was very surprised we managed to stay top as apart from the odd match we were hardly in impressive form.

I don't think it's foolish to sacrifice it when you're effectively 7 points behind with 6 games to go, especially as Liverpool will be up for it and we need a big performance next week as we're up against it. I do however think it's foolish to sacrifice cup competitions in the hope you win the league or CL.

McNamara That Ghost... - April 4, 2008 07:15 PM (GMT)
Well we'll see how Vidic's absence affects Man Utd.

Anyway, whilst it's still plausible the players should go for it really. In any case a win tomorrow would bode well for Tuesday's game. Even if we 'rest' players we're so down on numbers they'll probably be on the bench in any case.

It's Up For Grabs Now - April 4, 2008 07:24 PM (GMT)
Well i wouldnt rest any of the back four, no need.

Midfield, we've hardly got the numbers or the quality to rest anyone, maybe Hleb at a stretch if Walcott played on the left. Or Song in for Flamini, i dont think we can afford to rest Cesc as that would leave us with no creativity..

Upfront there's only Ade who's a candidate but he's hardly in need of a rest if his ankle's ok..

So we dont really have much choice.

:goodpost:

i wud win the EPL anyday over CL... everyone talks abt us going 3 years without a trophy but 2006 was actually a good season with regards to CL, we were beaten in only 13 minutes with a defense that went close to 1000 minutes without conceding, creating a world record but no one remembers it... y? coz we lost it in 13 minutes!
EPL is and wudve been in our hands had we not folded... im not saying we will win it but y lie down and die when we can give in with a decent shout... im not usually optimistic but if we can cut man utd's lead by 3 points tmm and that puts pressure on them... they r goin to boro which is kind of a tricky place to go... u never know! i'd still want arsenal to bust their asses off for the remaining games..

a maximum of 10 games if we reach till the CL final and a minimum of 7 games... y give up... its pointless giving away months of hardwork... i say pull up ur socks and give it ur best shot... its just 7 weeks till the end! :scarf:

My sentiments exactly..

Professor Zim - April 4, 2008 07:33 PM (GMT)
Honestly right now I couldn't care less about the PL as long as we qualify for the CL next season for the simple fact that I can't see us winning it, whether we come 2nd or 3rd is of little consequence. Yes we'll have to play a qualifier if we come 3rd, but you only play weak sides so it's no big issue.

What's more if resting players means we can focus on the trophy we realistically can win I'm all for it. I think we've reached the stage where the players are tired and we need to prioritise and focus on our most realistic hope of a trophy, making up 7 points in 6 games against a side in form isn't realistic IMO.

McNamara That Ghost... - April 4, 2008 07:37 PM (GMT)
Well I hope you don't come on and complain about the match tomorrow should we lose...;)
